Review by bharvi14 -- How To Be Successful
The book 'How To Be Successful: Think Like a Leader' is a non-fiction work by M. Curtis McCoy. The author of the book is the CEO of Best Cellular, a motivational speaker, and a successful entrepreneur. His voyage to success is a magnificent example of the victory of an iron-willed person over the adversities of life. Born with Type I diabetes, he achieved heights of success at a very young age of 27 but lost everything upon diagnosis with brain cancer. Yet, his strong spirit did not let him down. He collected the broken pieces of his life and re-established his empire all over again.
In this book, the author has beautifully narrated interviews of several successful entrepreneurs who went from rags to riches. The tale of each one ends up with life-changing lessons. You will find incredible pieces of advice from the career of victorious ones. The success ideology of achievers, their daily rituals, strengths and weaknesses, decision-making, and goal accomplishment tips, have been well elucidated here. It would not be wrong to say that this book is a reservoir of experiences.
The encounter of every leader with success taught him different lessons. The definition of success for every individual appeared to change with time. Those who had immensely worked harder during younger age were ultimately heading in search of peace and calmness in life. But one thing was unique to them. Trust in the power of prayers. Most of them mentioned that prayers and holy books helped them strengthen their decision-making abilities. It validated the concept of positive affirmations and thinking in the improvisation of many lives. Prayers and positive affirmations keep thoughts clear, gradually enhance focus towards goals. Also, prayers develop a sense of strong self-believe, which ultimately enhances decision-making ability. The Law of attraction, besides, creates harmonious results. This book is well-balanced regarding its definition of success.
You can get insights into the role of time-management, prioritization, self-discipline, perseverance, appreciation, commitment, and confidence in the lives of achievers. I was amazed by the thoughts of the author's mother and CMO of Best Cellular, Connie Wyatt on self-discipline. She mentioned that the shortest distance to reach your goal is always a straight line devoid of any distraction. Besides, you will find some personality-changing tips as to how to be open, vibrant, and make new connections. The best thing about this book is, besides providing knowledge on effective business-management, it focuses on the all-round development of an individual.
The author has nicely divided the book into short chapters that grabs the interest of the reader. This book is, in fact, an asset for book lovers because when you finish reading this book, you will find a list of books recommended by different entrepreneurs in your bucket list. For all these facts, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Repetition, at certain places, could have been avoided. But this point alone cannot reduce the likelihood of this work. There was no strong reason to dislike this book. Language is appreciable and easy to recognize. This book will greatly benefit those who want to try their luck or already in marketing, business, entrepreneurship, and public dealing. This book, in general, is rewarding to enthusiastic and ambitious people who have a spark inside them to be victorious. I appreciate this masterwork and strongly recommend it to the audience.
