King Wilhelm Arcolo is dead. His chief adviser, one Lucius Nartik is an ambitious gentleman. As a matter of fact, he's eyeing Voulhire's royal throne. However, chancellor Midius Maido is of the opinion that he's tactical and opportunistic. General Meldorath, or Eiodi Indarmo II, on the hand, strongly feels Nartik is what the kingdom needs. Some feel prince Darius is just not ready. The Mainoran council, though, will have the final say. Will Nartik be their preferred successor?

We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End is full of politics and schemes. It's a kingdom with it's fair share of issues. It's systems are quite similar to the current way of life. There are surreal characters like the ramshires used by the Mianoran knights and the like. Otherwise, the capitol, the metropolis of Soulhire and other areas are very much like what we're used to. This is actually the third book of the "We are Voulhire" series by Matthew Tysz.

I like the fact that the Sci-Fi/Fantasy is imaginable. Matthew has arranged his plot and story in a flowing manner. It's not complicated or overdone. I haven't read the other books preceding this one, but I have a strong feeling they do flow properly.

There are a few dislikes I had concerning this book. An example is that the characterization is off. The king, adviser and chancellor characters, major ones at that, just don't develop as they are supposed to. Still, the two only major female characters, Sophie Shore and Beth are neither here nor there. Women are simply not well represented in this book. This is a miss in our current times. Also, the story is not captivating enough. It's difficult to read it in one sitting. The ending didn't do it for me too. It's quite flat.

I found a couple of errors. There were not typos per say. It was mostly sentence structures. They didn't distract me from my reading. However, due to this and the above, I do rate Matthew's work 2 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to mature readers. Readers who fancy some fiction may enjoy the We are Voulhire series. Fortunately, the writing style and English is simple. There's a bit of profanity here and there. There's no exotic content though. Also, there's a lot of violence which might upset kids. Conservative readers might want to skip this one as well. Matthew didn't dwell on religion much and thus readers from any religion may enjoy reading the book.

Thank you for your honesty. Personally, I enjoy this series very much, especially when I read it in order. There are more developments to expect as the story progresses.

I have finished this book as well. The author added Sophie Shore and Beth but their presence in this novel weren’t strong enough. I enjoyed reading your review. It was well-written and very honest.

Nice review :D . I also did a review on this book and you can check it out. My favorite scene was the failed attempt to assassinate the king, I think that scene brought out the needed action in subsequent scenes in the book keeping readers anxious on the next line of action .

I have not read any of the books in this series. I wonder how much your enjoyment of the book had to do with not reading the preceding books? Anyway, I would like to read the books some day, but I don't have time for a series right now. Thanks for your honest and interesting review!

Hm, Tysz' books tend to have a lot of characters, even though most of them would be out of the picture soon enough. Still, I would recommend you read the series in order. Else, you might be confused by the plot's developments. At least, you need the first part to have an idea about the series' settings. One good thing is that aside from the 6th one, the first 5 books are quite short with less than 200 pages per copy.

You are brave to jump into this series at the third book! I haven’t read any of the We Are Voulhire books. I decided to read the series vicariously through all the wonderful reviews. It seems the female characters are slow to develop in the series. Thank you for your honest take on this one.

I do think that the lack of strong female characters is also a miss – personally, I think "science fiction is usually male-dominated" is no longer applicable nowadays. Thanks for the review.

I imagine the politics is a lot due to the issue of succession to the throne. Thanks for the insightful review.

I strongly believe that you'd have a different view on this installment when you read the previous books of the series. This is actually the lowest rating that I've seen on any of the books in the series.
