Matthew Tysz is an author of several series, including the We are Voulhire Series. He is a person of creative imagination, with his love for watching people’s behavior, he creates a world where his characters possess individual personalities. Through We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko, we can see how Matthew Tysz understands the beauty in chaos, believing that it is a source of creation, and true enough, decisions made in a chaotic state of mind can produce a story worth the read.

The first thing I did after seeing the title of this book was, of course, check if the book cover has flames as its design. After all, that’s only logical, right? But to my surprise, instead of fire, there was smoke. Since I enjoy looking for meaning behind simple things, I found it interesting how there was a cloaked figure playing a smoking violin, and I thought it would be fascinating if he had something to do with “The Fires of Virko.”

The Voulhire adventure resumes with the setting being none other than the city of Virko. Virko was described as a dark but prosperous city, and when Venden Hrelek, the Lord of Virko, decided to end the noble sovereignty in exchange for bankers, investors, and business owners, a large change was to happen, and a son was about to get stripped off the title as the future Lord. To make things spicier, on our beloved trio’s (Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius) journey in looking for iron in Virko, they came across a demon, who is under the control of this certain son. It just so happens that Lord Venden was dying, his son reeked bad intentions, the priests available were irresponsible beyond belief, the Eiodi was busy with rocks that are sending waves of unfamiliar magic, and the dangerous Meldorath was planning his next move. It’s a recipe for disaster! But, which is the main ingredient that will set Virko into flames?

Let me just leave a 4 out of 4 stars here. This series is incredibly gripping, and this book didn’t fail to keep up with my expectations. Personally, the only thing that bothered me was the profanities that doesn’t match the elegance of the author’s writing style, however, other than that, I found everything else enthralling. Professional editing was done, allowing the readers to experience enjoyment without the disturbance from wrong grammars. The switching of focus in the third point of view was an excellent choice, it gives the readers a chance to see the moves each character would make while still allowing a space for alarming surprises to happen. Through that, we also learn more about the characters and the reasons for their course of action. Each character was unique, they all had their own personal belief and standings. I also like how their up-bringing affects their current views and I relished the realistic misunderstandings, and how it grows into a serious problem that demands immediate attention.

We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko tackles the reality in the form of a magic-filled SCI-FI book. People are always craving for a change, businesses are rising; everyone is working non-stop; and the world continues to move forward, never waiting for anyone. Then, we forget about other important things: family and friends. I totally would recommend this book! Especially for those who love adventure, science, magic, and those who wish to expand their vocabulary. Don’t make me start talking about the author’s choice of words or else I might end up dedicating an entire paragraph on it! It’s just incredibly impressive!

We are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko is the second book in the We are Voulhire Series, and although it can be read as a stand-alone, it would be best to read the first entry to the first in order to get a better grip of the story. What are you waiting for? The mysteries won’t unfold till you jump in the rabbit hole!
