[Following is a volunteer review of "The Dark Web Murders" by Brian O'Hare.]
The Dark Web Murders by Brian O’Hare is a book of crime, mystery and thriller genre. It is the fourth installment in the Inspector Sheehan mysteries.
A reputed judge is found murdered, and inspector Sheehan is on the case. He keeps the judge’s guest in his view, no one able to leave his suspect list. Another murder with similar details is found and now Sheehan knows a serial killer is on loose. But what happens when the same killer starts explaining his/her doings as justice and providing gruesome details of the act? Will Sheehan be able to find this culprit? Or will he succumb to him?
Brian O’Hare has used very simple language along with various dialects spoken by the characters. The suspense and those scenarios leading to murder kept on giving me goosebumps throughout the book. The blogs written by the killer were very detailed and not just only showed the killer’s thirst for justice but also a depraved mindset. There were many suspects, no doubt, but the end was unexpected, able to keep me on the edge.
I liked that the author has mainly focused on investigation and not indulging in the suspect’s life to confuse the readers. I haven’t read any previous book in this series and I assure you that this book can still be read as a stand-alone, as each character is well introduced. Another thing that I liked about this book was how much well-planned the plot was, specifically the concept of the dark net which most of the population is unaware of.
I would recommend this book to adults and senior adults who are interested in crime and psychological thriller, this book will certainly satisfy them. This book is not meant for people who aren’t able to digest all those gruesome details. This book contains sexually explicit content. Segments of mild profanities can be found, which for me, are bearable. The book was well-edited. There were some grammatical errors present but not enough to affect my ratings. Therefore, I’d rate this book '4 stars out of 4 stars'.
It was confusing to keep up and remember so many characters, but I was delighted that the author provided a glossary. For me, there was nothing to dislike in this book. I’m very much pleased to say that this book is one of the most intriguing and captivating crime thrillers you will ever come across. And this won’t be the last book by Brian O’Hare that I would read, instead, I’m looking forward to his other works too.
