Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is a detective book for children. The author, R.F. Kristi, uses animals in her writing as the main characters. Unlike in many animal books with cross-communication between the animals and humans, the animals here communicate only between themselves. Inca is the main character through which the story is narrated.

Inca and her friends follow their human mom to a cooking competition being held in Seoul, South Korea. They take up the responsibility of uniting their tour guide with his sister who lives in North Korea. Due to political issues between the two countries (North and South Korea), the two ended up living apart without seeing each other for years. Inca shows enormous courage by braving forests filled with dangerous animals and sneaking across the dreaded Demilitarized Zone to accomplish her goal.

I loved how well the author explains the cause of the tension between North and South Korea. It is obvious she had a mind to her young audience, so she tried to minimize the technicalities while still passing on crucial information.

I loved the cover art and the illustrations by Jorge Valle. I award it 4 out of 4 stars because every aspect of the book was outstanding. The editing was done meticulously to ensure zero errors, so I presume the book was edited professionally.

The book would be great for children who love detective stories. I especially recommend it to those between the ages of eight and ten years for several reasons. First, the storyline seems a little confused, with an unexpected diversion in focus from what I assumed was the plot originally. Number two was the few vocabularies I encountered which felt too big for smaller children. Three, the illustrations are few consequently demanding an audience that is less into the visual representation of the story. Children between this age bracket would find the book most beneficial.

This book is well suited for kids. It might even do well as an animation for children also. I can already envision it.
