Review by gayscott -- There's a Rooster in My Bathroom!
There's a Rooster in My Bathroom! by Trish Ostroski is an easy to read book about the life Trish lived in places like Moldova all the way to Hollywood and beyond. Each chapter is another story that takes you on an adventure or circumstance in her life that was meaningful to her in some way. She uses these stories to bring thoughtful, personal insights to life in the hope of helping someone along their journey. Each story ends with a personal quote to wrap the inspirational message up into a meaningful read. The author has lived a very diverse life as a theatrical reviewer, performer, speaker, and served in the United States Peace Corps. By using all her unique experiences, she is able to write this diverse assortment of adventures to help readers understand the world more clearly by sharing life-lessons and stories in hopes to enable people to live their lives with greater meaning and purpose.
This book holds so much information about the author's life I could easily call it an autobiography or memoir. It could, also, be considered a self-help book because of the inspirational messages and quotes she gives to help someone facing the same obstacle. It is a very easy book to read with no difficult words to understand. A teenage boy or girl would enjoy this read, as well as an adult man or woman. It contains no vulgar language or explicit scenes that would make it inappropriate for a certain age group.
I thought the writer was trying to keep the storyline simple by using easy to understand words so that younger readers could enjoy and benefit from her adventures. My favorite part of the entire book was the chapter on the meaning of life. She stated, " Explore the meaning of life and be sure to create and come up with your meaning of life. After all, you only get one life. This is not a dress rehearsal." (Pg. 46) I felt this to be a very true and inspirational statement all young people need to be aware of as they are beginning their own story in life.
To me, the stories did not always get my attention and make me want to continue reading with enthusiasm. Some chapters even dragged a little bit and got boring. I was expecting more of an inspirational story and stimulating quote at the end of each chapter than was given. I am used to reading Christian inspirational books and to me, they are much more fulfilling. Please, do not misunderstand me. As I have heard many pastors say, “You have to drink the milk before you can eat the meat and you, definitely, do not want to stay on the milk or you won't grow.” I just think I am past the “milk” phase. That is why I feel if you are like me and have read many inspirational books during your life, this might not be the one for you. It might be a little too easy and not provide the in-depth, soul-stirring truths you are searching for.
I did not find any errors and felt the author put her heart into this book. Her dedication and encouragement for others are definitely seen throughout the chapters and her life. I give it a 3 out of 4 stars rating and wish Trish the best in her next adventure.
