Review by pablo10 -- The Sins of a Master Race
The Sins of a Master Race is the third installment in the post-apocalyptic dystopian fantasy series by author Matthew Tysz. There's a new looming threat over the world as the global population recovers from the aftermath of the apocalypse. Scholer and Ashley try to unite their allies, but with everyone having differing motives, can they succeed?
After Ella Hale leaves his side, Cattleprod busies himself by tightening his grip on his burgeoning empire. Scholer and Ashley lead a group of high-end assassins known as White death aboard the ship Nightmare's End. Ashley is still reeling from the after-effects of his abduction by The King of May, so Scholer sets him up with a therapist named Ruth. To Scholer's surprise, Ella Hale joins their crew.
Meanwhile, cousins Aurora Defury and Maron Defury have broken out of a place called Anima Mea and started hunting gods one by one. They apprise Scholer of the threat posed by a man named Marat, who is more powerful than even The King of May and is raising an army by imprisoning souls captured from outer worlds in Anima Mea. Scholer must now find a way to kill Marat and save this world from being run over by creatures from outer worlds.
Everything that had been simmering over the previous two novels has boiled over into a thrilling climax in this one. I think this has been the most action-oriented novel in the series yet. Scholer and Ashley's friendship continues to be the backbone of the series, with Ashley's personality getting explored with far more depth in this book. The plot moves at a brisk pace with numerous twists and turns along the way. There are also some new characters introduced in the story. My favorite were the Defury cousins.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and I think this one might be my favorite of the series yet. There was nothing that I didn't like about this book. Tysz seems to be getting better with each passing book. The worldbuilding has never been so vivid as I got lost in the visuals painted by the narrative.
I will give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I found it to be flawless. The editing seemed professional as I found no grammatical mistakes or punctuation errors. There is a significant amount of profanity in the book, so this is not suitable for children. However, I would highly recommend it to fans of fantasy.
