If an alien civilization attempted to make contact with the earth, how would humanity react? Would the world’s military work together to fight a common enemy, or would the governments approach the situation diplomatically? Michael D. Komeshak’s The decision offers the reader his perspective on the matter in a captivating and well-thought narration.

When a group of aliens makes their way into the earth, Jason Harper finds himself among a thirteen-member delegate team, chosen from nations around the world to deliberate ways in which the aliens would help abate the most significant crises that lurked on humanity’s horizon, owing to the rapid technological advancements. These advancements brought with it unforeseen threats such as pollution, climate change, a looming nuclear war, and overpopulation, to name a few.

The aliens’ advanced technologies give them the ability to solve any of the challenges that plague humanity’s physical world in a short amount of time. All that the thirteen delegates need to do is identify which problems pose the most risk to human existence, and it would be resolved promptly. How will the thirteen delegates approach this insurmountable task of deciding which problems posed the greatest risk?

What made me enjoy the book the most was how the author was able to offer a myriad of perspectives on these matters through the characters, which made the book intriguing. It’s only natural that when you group people of varying backgrounds to decide on something, getting a universal answer won’t be easy, and I loved that the author captured that. The ensuing conflict that happens as the thirteen strive to reach a consensus was a thrill for me. I found myself pondering over the same, often agreeing with one character’s suggestion and rebuking another character. It’s fascinating!

I didn’t find anything that I disliked about the book. The book was extremely well written and engaging to me. It didn’t have typographical errors, as I didn’t come across any. However, I captured an error where the author wrongly referred to Nigeria as an eastern African country. Other than that, the writing wasn’t plagued by errors, and I relished reading it.

My verdict is 4 out of 4 stars for this one. As a big consumer of science fiction, this was right at home for me. The ideas were refreshing and gave me things to ponder about. However, readers may want to exercise caution with this and read with an open mind. Depending on which religion you practice or which part of the world you come from, some of the content may be condescending. Young readers should skip this as it contains mature content and it uses expletives. If you love science fiction, I recommend this to you.

This book sounds like my cup of tea with the alien concept and the sci-fi theme. Choosing which is the most prioritized world issue would be a hard job, especially when it's involved with national benefits. I'm curious how the team will decide.

I reviewed this book as well, and I'm glad that the errors were cleaned up. I wasn't crazy about the ending, but that was just my personal opinion. I thought your review did an excellent job of describing the book's many attributes.

My first reaction at the sight of an alien invasion would be attack attack attack! But it seems the book offers sensible alternatives and perspectives. I might just give this book a chance. Great erview.
