The Raven’s Trail, Book One by Liz D Marx

The Raven’s Trail is a fantasy romance that tells a short tale of an ancient Indian tribe weaved into a modern-day story. It follows the exploits of the “little blond tornado”, Cloe Doyle, a historian at the Smithsonian Institute. When Cloe finds an ancient artifact her life changes forever and she gets to explore and live her passion, the history of the Indian people.

Mason Green, the magical mystery man, crosses paths with Cloe, reluctantly so. Mason has a dark soul, consumed by regret and desperate for release from this world, yet he is inexplicably drawn to Cloe. Both of them guard a secret. Together they must solve a riddle, run for their lives and learn to trust each other, their hearts, and the magic of their world. But most of all they have to heal the injuries of a time gone past.

At first, the book was a bit slow in progression. The first transition from dream to reality caught me off guard and confused me, but after the first few paragraphs, it started to make sense. By the time I started chapter four I was well entertained and soon after I couldn’t put it down.

I love a story where it takes me a while to guess who the villain is, this book kept me guessing for a good long time. A time or two I had to grab a tissue as the writer touched my heartstrings, expertly conveying the despair of past sins.

It felt like the character’s names were overused at the beginning of the book. Fortunately, as the story progressed and I got used to the writing style and caught up in the events, I hardly noticed it.

The Raven’s Trail, Book One by Liz D Marx will find purchase with readers trying to get their feet wet with fantasy fiction, young and old.

Little Johnny caught my attention. The lonely kid with only a few memories, lots of secrets, and the heart of a Lion. I hope to read more about him in THE BINDING STONE (The Raven’s Trail - Book 2).

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I loved the story’s and the writer’s magic, creating breathtaking visuals. I could see Mason’s eyes glow and could almost feel the vibrant aura surrounding Cloe at times. The magic was just enough to entice and didn’t overshadow the storyline. The description of the ritualistic dancing scene had me seeing and smelling the dust as they stomped their feet and feel the hypnotic effect of the chants.

I found one almost profanity and a few other errors but nothing worth mentioning.
