Part one of Soul Seeker is centered on Poe: a former captain of a crew of firefighters at Illinois who is being held by the state for the murder of his son. His claim that it wasn't his intention to kill his son did not prevent his wife from filing for divorce and other relations and acquaintances from distancing themselves from him. However, before the incident, a green-eyed man with no identification and no wallet had delivered a message to him: "The time has come for your son to acknowledge his sins." Is there some truth to Poe's claims?

The second part of the book starts with Crighton and his mission to capture a high-ranking angel and deliver it to Lucifer. As a soul seeker, Crighton would be catching an angel, instead of a human, for the first time. His mission is jeopardized when a privately held organization of rogue scientists that battles angels and demons captures him and the angel he intends to catch. Crighton must find a way to escape on time and complete his mission or suffer the wrath of Lucifer. As the plot unravels, secrets are revealed and the political structure of hell is challenged by one strong force: forbidden love.

In a book that runs so wildly and sporadically that predicting it becomes a fool's errand are two stories merged into one, which are linked together ingeniously to portray several interesting themes: redemption, punishment, Bible passages, angels and demons, predestined love, politics, rebellion, good and evil, secrecy, and much more. Kaylin McFarren definitely knows how to tell a story as each piece of information and plot twist are relevant to the main plot and the conclusion of the story in a cohesive manner. I found myself saying things like, "Oh, so that is why that happened." Just when I thought a character was out of the story, they would show up in a surprising turn of events. Also, I did not expect the story to feel so real like the author had actually met with angels and demons before.

I do not recommend Soul Seeker to Christians as I believe they might not like the idea of a romantic bond between an angel and a demon and the fact that the story has many scenes set in hell. Readers who don't mind this, along with the heavy language usage and light descriptions of sexual acts would not have a problem with the book. I particularly recommend it to fans of books that are not necessarily religious but have celestial beings as major characters and several biblical themes included.

Great stories make you feel deeply, and Soul Seeker is no exception. It is fantastic how the celestial beings in the book are depicted with personalities that make them seem human. I loved every aspect of the book and disliked nothing. Hence, my rating for Soul Seeker is 4 out of 4 stars.
