Mirrored Worlds is the first book of a series by Tayma Tameem. A young mage, Lila, from the Magical Bureau of Affairs along with Battleaxe, a giant and Graute, an elf are assigned a mission to retrieve a baby that could save the world. They have to travel to Opar, run by the Federation and bring it back to the Nation. This child then has to be sent to the parallel world, a world without magic using the Prime Mirror.

This book is mainly written by Lila's viewpoint who is a young quite inexperienced mage who has only just graduated from the National Academy. This is her first mission. Lila's perspective is very interesting as we learn about this magical world, its laws and history with her throughout the journey. Throughout the story we can see how hard it is for Lila to cast magic, every time she does she loses energy and therefore has to wait before she cast again.

Graute and Battleaxe are not heroes either however are very well developed. None of the 3 characters have anything clearly in common except this journey. Throughout the book you see their relationship and trust develop and I think this is a vital part to the book.

The book unfolds fast and is action packed which really drew me in and kept me wanting to read. I didn’t find myself expecting something to happen and twists where definitely unexpected throughout the book. The author has also included some more traditional fantasy characters such as elves, trolls and unicorns. The world that this author has created makes you want to explore more of it and learn more about this magical world.

I am a big fan of fantasy books and this one was no different. The way the world and characters where written really drew me in and made me want to read more about them. The ending was a little abrupt but as I think as it’s only the first book it makes you interested in reading the 2nd. You want to know what happens, you become invested in knowing if they completed their journey and where able to send the child through to the parallel world.

While reading this book I did find some typos but they were not significant and I would buy this book in its current state. There are scenes of violence throughout and therefore I would not recommend this book to children but I think you adults would enjoy it as well as anyone who enjoyed fantasy.

I would give this book 4/4 stars as I did really enjoy it and am very much looking forward to other books in the series and following the story of Lila, Battleaxe and Groute.

The abilities and limitations of the characters look interesting. It makes me curious about how their powers complement to achieve their goal. Also, would you consider this novel a stand-alone despite the abrupt ending? Thanks for the insights.
