Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren is an exciting and quite nailbiting storyline on the existence, manifestation, and balance between good and evil.

Everyone in the town of Lochton, Illinois was left shell shocked after Benjamin Poe murdered his son in cold blood. Poe was known and even regarded himself as an upright man, an epitome of a good father, good husband, and loyal to his town. He was an upright Christian man by all means despite the usual problems between husband and wife. But questions lingered, what happened to him? What influenced his actions on that fateful day? No one had an iota of an idea.

The fire that broke out at the College Inn where Poe's son (Gabriel) worked, brought forth into motion events that would lead to a total twist to Poe's life as he knew it. Beaudouin, Poe's Counsellor, was adamant in finding out what had really happened and he still figured Poe could definitely escape the death row if dug deeper. And indeed, he became the only person that Benjamin Poe narrated to what had happened that led him to be in prison awaiting execution. " I didn't know until that night that the world is full of monsters. Monsters with dark souls and claws, waiting for the chance to tear you apart." And indeed, he was torn apart!

Poe and his wife Lexi were constantly fighting over the character and conduct of their son, Gabriel. The couple lost their much-adored daughter in the early years of their marriage under unclear circumstances. She died in the presence of her brother, Gabriel. Gabriel seems to have led people, including his parents, to believe that she was murdered by one known child bully. He seemed to have lost memory or collection of what transpired on that day. Did he really remember nothing?

Crighton was Lucifer's most trusted and highest soul catcher. As the events unfolded after the College Inn Fire, which had Poe suspicious of his son's hand in it, Crighton came to Lochton complete in his black clothes, eyes as green as the fired emerald. He came in looking for Poe. That is when all hell broke loose in Poe's life. Evil over good. Good over evil.

Kaylin McFarren presented the two opposite realms as us ordinary humans perceive them. Heaven and Hell. Crighton was sent to collect Gabriel's soul for all the iniquities he had committed from a tender age. Mind-blowing is the way in which Poe defended and stood for that which he called his own until he was deceived into killing his son thinking it was Crighton. As the storyline progresses, The author neatly and expertly brought in the fight that exists in the Heaven and Hell dimensions. Crighton is sent to collect Apprentice Angel Ariel's soul. Lucifer devoured angels' souls, for reasons that were thoroughly laid bare by the author as the book unraveled.

The author ushered in an interesting twist to the plot by having Crighton and Ariel captured by the secret Sovereign Sector, an organization privately owned and run by some wayward super-intelligent scientists. They were merely interested in studying supernatural and alien forms of life. An intriguing demonic and angelic romantic escapade ensue in the supernatural world, as the fight for the balance between good and evil escalates. Quite a twist was brought into the book as Kaylin McFarren revealed that Crighton himself was a product of an Angel father (Castiel) and a demon mother (Acadia).

I loved the writing style of the author. She wrote in simple and easy words that are also comprehensible in nature. Any level of a reader can read the book and fully understand where she is coming from and going. I also liked that she managed to narrate the storyline in such a way that you are on the edge of the seat and will not want to leave the book down until you are done. Kaylin McFarren also further wrote her book that encompasses some romance which brings in some form of softness to the thrilling events in the story. I could easily conjure up images of the demons and angels as per the good and vivid descriptions that she gave them. I like the way in which the author carefully draws the reader into the storyline, suspends the reader, and brings you to finality. Amazing!

At some point I could have strongly believed that the characters were not demons and angels but just us ordinary humans. I appreciate that in our everyday lives as Christians, it is noted that the devil comes in any form and you will never know, and that angels are everywhere. This is exactly what Kaylin McFarren managed to portray. Acadia at some point took out a comb from her bag and did her hair, brushed her teeth. You honestly would not believe that was a demon being described. Who would think that a demon takes a bath?

I further appreciated the fact that this book explores the issues that are down at an individual level. An individual has power to choose between good and evil and of course that there are consequences for the choices we eventually make. I further liked the fact that this book brings a glimpse of hope that even in the most diffiult of times, love conquers.

I did not find anything that I did not like about the book except for the fact that I could not put the book down and in the process slept in the wee hours of the morning.

There are no explicit nude scenes in the book. All scenes were moderately explained. There were instances of profane words being thrown around in the book. The book presents as having been professsionally edited. For lack of anything against this book, I rate it four out of four stars.

I would recommend the book to anyone reader across all genres. It is suitable for readers from 12 years and above.

Thanks for your detailed review. Poe's life is so dreadful. I hope he will be able to clear his name.
