We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz
We are Voulhire is a Science Fiction book that tells the story of a young man who gets the opportunity to finally leave his oppressive homeland to a new country called Voulhire where he believes freedoms awaits him.
Galen happily boards a boat to Voulhire without a second thought. Upon arrival in Magnum Caelum (a town in Voulhire), Galen is overwhelmed by his inheritance and the warm welcome he receives. A trial for public indecency turns into chaos when an old man assaults the judge. At last, Lord Eldus and his family arrive at their new home in Hillport, but the mood is suddenly dampened by the reminder of the horrible events that occurred in the castle. Lord Eldus wins over the people of Hillport with his speech. Galen tries to get acquainted with how things work in Magnum Caelum whereas Eldus investigates more information about the previous leaders of Hillport. Marshus Gives a speech that leaves peers of Hillport happy and Galen learns disturbing differences between his homeland and Voulhire. Lord Eldus visits the school to speak to children affected by Lord Orlin’s abuse. Galen and Rowan are on a mission to discover the worth of a rock they received from a mage. Beth enters the physical universe where she meets the most feared man in Voulhire. Lord Eldus is threatened by Meldorath and Hillport is attacked by dancing soldiers. Meldorath’s escape turns into a bloodbath and King Wilhelm receives the news of what happened in Hillport.
We are Voulhire is narrated in both first person and third person point of view. The story takes place in a fantasy world where humans and magical beings coexist. Moreover, the book is descriptive and dramatic with a little bit of action scenes. The dialogue is exciting and suits the monarchical theme. The story is eventful and unpredictable. This is professionally edited since I did not find any noticeable grammatical errors.
The story is narrated by multiple characters. As a reader who usually struggles to read books narrated by multiple characters, I really loved the way Matthew Tysz was able to fit these characters into the story while ensuring that the storyline flows well. Each character plays a significant role in the story and I was able to see what Voulhire means to each character. Furthermore, the characters are well rounded, and they develop throughout the story.
There was no element I did not like it this book. The story was interesting and fun to read. This book does contain vulgar words, but they are not severe. I appreciated the map and the glossary in the book as they made reading easier and fun. The elements I loved the most were the monarchical theme and the good description of physical appearance. This is important to me because it helps me imagine the characters in my head as I read. I also loved the relationships between the characters. Particularly, the friendship between Rowan and Galen. I rate this book 4 out of 4. It was so easy for me to get engrossed in the story and the writing style of the author was compelling. I recommend this book to people who love Science Fiction books filled with action and drama.
