In his book, DEBT CLEANSE, How to Settle Your Unaffordable Debts for Pennies on the Dollar (And Not Pay Some at All), Jorge P. Newbery gives step-by-step advice on clearing out debts you cannot pay and outlines a plan to eventually live free of the chains of debt, all without declaring bankruptcy.

After experiencing a major financial setback due to a natural disaster, Newbery learned a great deal about dealing with debts he did not have the financial resources to pay. Newbery's experiences and insights into the process of dealing with creditors is enlightening, and takes the fear out of dealing with creditors in a similar situation.

While his approach is drastic, personal stories of Newbery's and others experiences throughout the process of settling debts are both interesting and eye-opening, particularly the process that creditors take and how quickly many of them are willing to settle. The process seems extreme for me personally, but if my husband and I were to lose our jobs or have our income drastically reduced, I will be so appreciative of this resource!

This book would be of interest to adults of all ages and background because many Americans are heavily in debt and struggle to pay their bills no matter their income level. It would be a particular interest to those who have recently lost their source of income, or do not have enough income to cover their obligations. Additionally, many people who are in debt may feel intimidated by creditors, and Newbery takes the reader inside the real process and results to help dispel those fears.

I am giving DEBT CLEANSE, How to Settle Your Unaffordable Debts for Pennies on the Dollar (And Not Pay Some at All) 3 out of 4 stars. The title of the book is intriguing and very explanatory, but a bit long. It appears that the book has been professionally edited because I only found two minor errors. There are no profane or vulgar words. I would have liked to have a bit more detail in Chapter 2 on transferring debt out of your own name, as it seems like a very important step.

I really enjoyed reading this book and appreciated the tone the author used to embolden his readers and take the fear out of taking charge of their finances. I enjoyed the personal examples and stories and would have liked more of them included in the book. The step-by-step instructions for the pre-cleanse, and then for each type of debt was very comprehensive. Newbery also includes examples of every type of letter needed to communicate with creditors. That resource alone is worth purchasing the book.
