If you like stories about parties lasting through the night, drunken fights, gambling, rich and seemingly powerful men; this book is for you. Personally, I was not a fan of the portrayal of the main character and author, David, or his lifestyle. Throughout the book, David is always in some form of trouble, yet, he never happens to be at fault. The character comes off as a very cocky, hot-headed, unlikable man whos' age is unknown throughout the majority of the book.

He brags about the love of the people he has that surround him. Only thing is, he has to pay out big for their love and loyalty. As I was reading, I realized it is about a sad and lonely man hiding behind his fortune, and masking his insecurities using this party lifestyle. Most nights, he seemed to have a new mistress on his arm and not one was important enough to mention a name.

More than once, there were talk of: exotic dancers, excessive foul language and drug use starting on page 1. throughout the book. I suppose that could be a life of a powerful man and his celebrity encounters. The fact that this book is based off of a real man and his life astounds me; to the point it feels made up in most aspects. For instance; David spends millions at casinos, yet never in debt. He will always tip $100 to anybody that helps him (which is quite often). He has swarms of people that come to his every call, despite what time it is or the location.

As I was reading, I notice many punctuation errors and grammatical errors, although no spelling errors. For instance; on page 5 in chapter 1 he states, “I agreed it was an awesome car but added that you have to get it in black, like mine, makes all the difference in the world.” I am lead to believe this book has not yet been professionally edited. I noted many inconstancies in the story, including time-line. There are very few times you understand when and where you are during the book. Nothing appears to be in chronological order, making it very difficult to follow. Due to those errors and personal thought, I rate That Time I... , written by author David O'Brien a 2 out of 4 stars.

I believe it could be a very fascinating read if it made sense, and was in chronological order. The author has had a very adventurous life and I believe people would love to hear about the excitement that is David O’Brien; just in a much different manner.
