We are Voulhire: Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz is the second installation in the "We are Voulhire" series. This magical fantasy novel focuses on the city of Virko, which is deemed as the most productive city in the kingdom. It also continues the story of Galen and his journey towards the city of Virko alongside his companions.

The novel’s story is focused on the city of Virko and the numerous events that take place after the death of its ruler and founder, Lord Venden. His son, Hans Hrelek, becomes a prominent character in the story. Being expected to lead the city after his father’s death, his dark plans and secrets will be exposed in this novel. Meanwhile, Galen and his companions make their way to the city of Virko for a task, but they discover a hidden demon and dark secret that will harm the city.

This is just the second installation for the series, but I have got to say that this is already my favorite book so far. The story just keeps on becoming interesting, and I hope that the succeeding books will remain consistently good. One of the things I loved about this book is the character growth and development made by the author. I already liked Galen in the previous book, but I have even become more of a fan of his character with this book. He remains to be a wise person grounded with his principles and beliefs. In addition to that, I also loved his interactions and chemistry with his friends, Rowan and Demetrius. They are all equally different coming with different backgrounds, but they work together so well.

Meanwhile, I loved that the novel also gave flashbacks and the point of view of Hans Hrelek. One of the things I also loved was that the author was able to establish Hans as such an interesting yet dark character. His character was able to capture my attention, and he remains to be such a mysterious and flawed person with dark secrets. He may not be a good character, but I cannot wait to see more of his character in the succeeding novels.

More than anything, I just really loved the story and the characters in this book. The author was able to present magical elements and demon characters in this novel that will keep it readers entertained. Since this is a second novel out of the series, I would still recommend viewers to read the first book to get a better grasp of understanding.

Overall, I would rate this book a 4 out of 4. This is such a great book and it just makes you look forward to the next novel in this series. Moreover, I did not find any grammatical errors in this book. However, this book does contain some profanity. Because of that, I would recommend this to adult readers who want an exciting fantasy read.
