[Following is a volunteer review of "One Way or Another" by Mary J. Williams.]
One Way or Another is the first of four books in The Sisters Quartet series by Mary J. Williams. The novel follows Calder, the second oldest of the four Benedict sisters. But it also lays the foundation for the remaining stories about the other sisters. Thanks to a flighty, self-centered, love obsessed mother and four different fathers, the sisters had a remarkably close, unbreakable bond. Coming from old New York money, they grew up in a Manhattan mansion that they all still reside in. In addition to their trust funds, each sister has their own successful careers. Calder runs a charity called Erica’s Angels.
Calder was not out searching for love, but Adam Stone and his innate need to protect a woman in distress barged his way in to her life. Adam did not come from money, but he worked hard and went from off the rack suits, to AB Originals. Their net worth may never coincide, but Adam was a good man who worked through Calder’s trust issues just in time to help the sisters deal with another bump in their disastrous relationship with their mother.
One Way or Another was a very charming story. The only thing that I disliked about it was the cover. The cover gave you the impression that this story is taking place at the beach, or maybe in the Midwest somewhere, it gave no inkling that it would be taking place in New York, or any city for that matter. However, I feel like this is such a minuscule item in the larger picture that I still would like to give it a rating of four out of four stars. The slow build and passion shared between Calder and Adam hooks you in and you cannot put the book down. And the connection shared between each sister is the icing on the cake. It makes it such a well-rounded story line that is not just focused on the two main characters jumping into bed. Not only was the story written well, but the editing was also done very well. I did not notice a single grammatical error.
I would limit this to mature readers who like romantic novels. The sexual content is not appropriate for all ages but there is nothing too explicit about the love scenes. I think it is tastefully done for a reader who might like a little intimacy in their reading without going into full graphic detail. There is something to be said about leaving certain things to your imagination.
