[Following is a volunteer review of "Unfaltering Trust" by Roy Ziegler.]
I rate Unfaltering Trust by Roy Ziegler a 4 out of 4 stars. This book receives this rating because it is a masterful historical read. I saw no typos and the language was very clear and succinct. This book was clearly, professionally edited prior to publishing. Also, the authors experience, like in the New Hope Historical Society, really shows throughout the book that Mr. Ziegler went to great lengths to ensure the historical accuracy within the book.
In summary, this book is a real history lesson about a particular family tree. This book shows a real commitment to starting the lineage at the very beginning. It is a true wonder how far reaching this family goes. From aggressors to procuring land to Presidents of the United States of America. Truly fascinating how this family has shifted history.
What I really enjoyed about this book is how it is blatantly obvious that the author committed significant time to research and put together a story about this family’s life and lineage. I also enjoyed the mixture of amusing stories about founding fathers, to stories of extremely hard times. This book positively did not ignore any issues, whether good or bad. I also enjoyed the background stories on how the characters minds were thinking, and this really helped to understand and feel like you knew the motives and thought processes of this family. I’m a history buff myself, especially when it comes to religion or the military. I really enjoyed how the author elaborated on religion and the military, and how those topics related to the story of the family being written about. Also, the genealogy sections were a great aspect to keep the many generations in context.
A negative about this book is that it would be difficult to read the entire story if you’re not invested in learning about history or the lineage of this particular family. It is amazing how much thought and description the author put into tracing back the lineage of this family, but without a true interest this book may be dull to some readers. However, the photographs that were used throughout the book brought the stories to life.
I think this book is well suited for readers who are interested in history. Most importantly this read is hard to get through if you’re not genuinely interested in a lineage story that shaped history throughout centuries. For me, this book could have been a dull story of a family’s history, however the author was able to bring light to the families’ story and I really enjoyed reading about it.
