Lauren Powers’ Beneath The Muscle is a feminine fitness biography that is packed with an inspiring and heart-moving storyline. Anyone who has read this book will resonate with the fact that this is an emotional piece and that the author should be acknowledged for their bravery and honesty. To a great extent, there is an emphasis on the importance of self-awareness and/or realization as the origin and catalyst for leading a truly successful and happy life throughout the book.

I enjoyed how the author meticulously unpacked their story in an effortless yet effective fashion. From this book, readers will take away lessons about career management and learn that it is not at all abnormal to change careers multiple times. After all, this is part of the self-discovery journey and the road to one realizing their true passion. If anything this book enlightens us that it is possible to start a new career at the age of forty, up-skill in any industry and still be able to make it. The author shares the history behind the different stages of personal growth she has experienced and the challenges she had to overcome such as substance abuse as well as other related unhealthy behaviors.

I must say my initial thoughts were that this book will be a typical book about muscle-building, fitness, and steroids. However, I was taken aback by the level of depth in this book. This is truly refreshing for a female fitness book. It is also impressive how broad the scope of the book is - fitness, career, spirituality, entrepreneurship, family, and relationships in general.

My personal highlight and icing on this masterpiece is the “companion workbook” which is available to the readers for free upon accessing the book. This workbook allows readers to engage with the author by populating answers based on a given chapter in the book. This was an amazing experience, it was like having a remote training session. The "companion workbook" is a powerful tool that can be easily adopted on utilized a continuous basis. I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars because I can apply the principles presented in the book in my own life and I simply enjoyed reading it.

This book can be read and enjoyed by anyone irrespective of gender or age. The book explores various and valuable lessons around self-discipline, mental and physical health as well as spirituality and, it is for this reason that I reckon people from multiple backgrounds can relate to the book the same way I did. The book appears to be professionally edited and no errors were noted. I have also enjoyed pictures of the author throughout the book, this kept the biography theme alive and interesting throughout the book. The author certainly understands the impact of visual appeal.
