Heat is book 2 of the Bad Boy Vibes series. It follows Anna Simmons, a victim of rape, who absolutely refuses to take up the “victim narrative”. After suffering betrayal at the hands of the one she loved the most; Anna finds herself torn, confused and lost until she meets Rafael Brown whose melted chocolate orbs hold the same type of pain she sees reflected in her emerald-green ones. They had both suffered at the hands of monstrous predators that had drugged and raped them for their pleasure. With these predators back in their lives, Anna and Rafe have to fight their way through this battle life had tossed their way not just for themselves but also for the ones they love.

I want to thank H.M. Irwing for addressing vital issues like rape, injustice in the justice system and unjust prejudice against the gay community in her book. That being said, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. The way emotions, thoughts and even descriptions were explicitly expressed kept my eyes glued to the pages of this book as I watched the story unfold before me. Words such as, “ The nightmare... penetrating the consciousness of its victim” kept me interested throughout the story. I felt like I was these characters, like I was living out their lives.

The only thing that bothered me about this book was the constant changing point of views as that made it a bit difficult to keep up with the story. They changed in no specific order making the story much less organized than it would have been. Nevertheless, H.M. Irwing did an amazing job. This book should not be read as a standalone as the storyline continues through the three books, but you can read the second book without reading the first and still get the gist of the story.

The group of people I know without a doubt will enjoy this story are the “helpless romantics”. The book also has elements of suspense and mystery. As long as you don't mind the vulgar words used then, you will most likely enjoy reading this book and hopefully, the series. I would not recommend this book for minors as it has R-rated scenes and cuss words are often used throughout the story.

Overall, I can say this is a book I would love to read over and over. I would also recommend that you read up to the third book of this series. You could also read the first book so you don't end up like me and assume that the antagonist is much younger than he actually is.
