- Latest Review: Jesus, Prosperity Gospel and Poverty in Africa by Elijah Oladimeji
Review by Hawthornapothecary -- Jesus, Prosperity Gospel...
Jesus, Prosperity Gospel, And Poverty In Africa takes you on a journey with the author through the depths of Africa’s poorest regions. He tells the truth and struggles he has witnessed of religion, family and the church itself in the face of massive struggles. The author clings to faith for guidance and takes you along for the ride. He opens up about the highs and lows of both the church and his family life in a very honest and open manner, sharing the turmoil that has to be faced to succeed in being of service in an are that is so underserved. Serving as a glimpse into a different place so much different and so far away from the life most of us lead, this book opens a heartfelt window into the soul of others.
It is a refreshingly nice change of pace to read a book where it’s obvious the author cares so much for other people. From the first page to the last it’s clear Elijah Oladimeji has a love for both humanity and the Lord that are a guiding light in his life. In multiple places despite the struggles the author shares positivity shines through. One mans willingness to be open about this life of service in a place so remote many people will never see is a window into another life.
Although his positivity was good to witness it is obvious this is the writing of a newer author, the chapters don’t seem to flow well on some places and it’s easy to get lost from what he was trying to portray. The dialog written in a back and forth, he said/she said manner also takes away from the over all meaning. I believe with some further work this is a book that could inspire others into humanitarian works, it has potential but isn’t quit there just yet.
I would give this this book, Jesus, Prosperity Gospel, And Poverty In Africa a 2 out of 4 stars . His obvious love for the subject doesn’t quite make up for the lack of professional editing and flow of the book. The chapters don’t align well into one solid story, it seems as though the author looses track of the main subject and each chapter turns into a stand alone unrelated short story.
This book is best suited for those readers interested in religion and it’s application in other countries such as Africa. If you’re someone who isn’t open to a book laced with religious stories, quotes and beliefs this one is definentaly not for you.
