The book Soul Seeker by Kaylin McFarren starts off with Benjamin Poe, a firefighter, responsible father, and a loving husband, struggling to fight off a manipulative and evil demon named Crighton in order to save his only son. Consequently, Poe ended up being fooled into killing his own son, and Crighton was rewarded of his son’s soul. Poe was tormented by this until he decided to end his own life during his trial on his son’s death. On the other hand, Crighton pressed on in following orders from his master Lucifer. He was set out to find two angels when he was captured by a group of scientists who captures and experiments on angels and demons. They were called the Sovereign Sector. He was captured along with an angel named Ariel whom he later found out as his soulmate. From here on, Crighton has been faced with a lot of twists, revelations of secrets, challenges, and adventure.

This book has a supernatural genre that focuses on the battle between light and dark and how your emotions can control your every action. Right off the bat, I was intrigued by this book. There are two parts to the story. The first one is about Benjamin Poe. It was narrated as a form of a flashback as he was talking to his lawyer about how he ended up shooting his son. The first part, I think, was kind of an introduction to the main character in the second part, which Is Crighton. But honestly, I think the first part could do better as a separate book.

The second part is about the demon Crighton. This was interesting too, however, I feel like it is kind of rushed. There is plot twist after plot twist that was happening, and it does not give me enough time to fully digest what was happening and made it seem like the plot is all over the place. One of the many reasons why I could not put the book down. But I think it would be much better if the author gave more time to develop the characters. I did not find myself getting attached to any of the characters since there is not much depth to them.

On a positive note, how the story was constructed was great. The dialogs were concise, and the flow of the sentences was good. I love how the author transitioned from a horror-thriller to romance very smoothly. In terms of editing, I did not find any errors in grammar or spelling. It was well-written.

I give this book a rating of 2 out of 4. I did not give it a higher rating because I did not find it original. This book, especially the second part, kind of reminded me of Good Omens. They both have similar themes of demons and angels working together but Soul Seeker is more on the romantic part. However, I did not give it a lower rating because I enjoy reading supernatural books, and I love how the author gave a few twists on the backstory of demons and angels. I highly suggest this book to supernatural and fictional theme lovers.

I think there is a lot to improve in terms of pacing and development but still, the storyline is good, and I still highly recommend book lovers, especially those who love the supernatural genre, to give it a try.
