We are Voulhire: The Flesh of the Mind written by Matthew Tysz is a really fascinating epic fantasy novel. The story was weaved around magic, reality and science.

This particular series unfold what happened after an attack on Voulhire by the Emperor of Lullabies and his army, the nightynights. Voulhire has three major cities, Soulhire (which is the capital city), Cridaea, and Yamon Soul. Nobody seems to understand the reason for the attack on Voulhire by the Emperor. Some citizens of Voulhire are considering resisting the ruler ship of the Emperor or to submit and continue under the siege. How will anyone fight or resist a ruler whose existence is a mystery? The author adopted a concept that shows an interplay between 3 universes; the Alitheia (spirit world), Cosmos (physical world) and Caromentis (magic world). The events in the story are well stated and detailed.

The story was presented in a conversational tone with a unique sense of humor and language.
The interesting aspect of the story is that certain characters created their own world where they can see their past life in the Cosmos, which is the physical world. It is also interesting to note that the characters were allowed to speak from their own individual perspective. Thus, reading this novel is like hearing from the primary speaker.

Another thrilling and fascinating thing about the story is that art was used to present interplay between human events and the spirit world. The only thing I don’t like about the story is that there are a few vulgar and sexual languages used, although in the narrative, they are not erotic in presentation. There are also scenes that displayed violence and killings.

I rate the book four out of four stars. I didn’t find any typographical error in the book. This shows that the book was well edited. The story was also well presented and the concept of the author is very nice. The twists in the story were well balanced with suspense that will keep a reader wanting to read further.

I recommend this book for young adults who love to read epic fantasy. Older folks too can enjoy the read. However, individuals who abhor sexual mentions and violent scenes in a reading may not want to read the book.
