The great C.S. Lewis once said, “A children’s story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children’s story in the slightest.” To this standard, Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi would stand tall as a fantastic children’s story. I quite enjoyed this children’s story and I am an adult. This story is full of fun characters and witty remarks that had me laughing out loud. I read this book in one day as it was short and easy to read, but also because I wanted to know how it ended! R. F. Kristi had me hooked on this small kitten’s detective journey in Sri Lanka!

Inca and her pals are at it again in book seven of the Inca book series. During this story, Inca and her family travel to Sri Lanka for a holiday. While they are there, evil is afoot! Precious items are stolen from a museum and the animal buddies are determined to figure out who took the items and return them to their rightful owners. As always, Inca’s brother, Fromage, gets into some trouble and the team has to rescue him. Inca even runs into some tricky situations with exotic animals in this book! Luckily, two native animals, an elephant and a sea turtle, help the crew find their way and solve the crime.

My favorite part of this book was the geography and history intertwined into the storyline. Being a teacher, I appreciate a children’s book written for enjoyment and educational purposes. I could easily see this book being utilized in a unit plan about traveling or animal habitats. As I stated before, I also really enjoyed the humor in this book. The little comments and thoughts of the characters made the book what it was.

I did not have a least favorite part of this book. I found no grammatical errors or typos throughout the entirety of the book. I even loved the illustrations! They added to the comical feel of the book and went right along with the story.

I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars. I recommend this book to absolutely anyone! It was a great book for children, as it was intended, but it could be enjoyed by any reader. A reader who likes animals would find this book especially precious. From cute kittens to menacing pythons, this book has it all!
