Title: The Book You Need to Read: Practical Advice from the Bible
Author: Debbie Wilcox
Publisher: Debbie Wilcox
Date: September 14, 2019
Pages 152

Debbie Wilcox, author of The Book You Need to Read: Practical Advice from the Bible and business consultant for Fortune 500 companies, writes a brilliant summary of passages found in the Bible in a format we can understand. Most people avoid reading the Bible for various reasons. The author breaks down the verses in the Bible, so they are easier to comprehend and, most important, understand what Jesus says about human concerns. Biblical passages about love, hate, money, saving, investing, greed, regret, despair, forgiveness, listening, dishonestly, generosity, and prayer serve as a guide for living a peaceful life.

The author synthesizes each topic and links to passages in concise, easy to read chapters referencing the spoken word of Jesus Christ. This reference guide on practical everyday advice from the Bible is timely and beneficial. Especially for those who have wanted to read the Bible but are intimated or confused about where to begin. The author also does a splendid job explaining Bible differences and offers suggestions, such as reading the Bible by starting with the New Testament. The New Testament speaks about Jesus's love for humanity and how he provides the Bible as a model to follow for peace and contentment.

I enjoyed most the author's clarification of the Dead Sea Scrolls' history and meaning. The Dead Sea Scrolls were found inside clay jars in deep caves near Israel, Jordan, and the West Banks in 1947. The Dead Sea Scrolls are a significant archaeological discovery because almost all the Hebrew Bible is written and found in the scrolls. As a bonus, the author does a super job explaining the differences between the old and new testaments. For instance, the old testament was written in Hebrew by Moses. The old testament talks about God's creation of the universe, man, and time. Jesus disciples' new testament is in Hebrew and Aramaic, starting with the birth of Jesus and explains his life and death for the world's salvation from sin.

I appreciated reading this book because its approach is refreshing, positive, and appeals not only to believers but to those who need the re-kindling of their faith. In today's current volatile and pandemic environment, when the daily news is ominous and outcomes hopeless, humans tend to stop praying or forget how to pray. This practical guide demonstrates that these are the times when humans need to pray more, several times a day, wherever they are, for health, happiness, and others.

Overall, this book is a worthwhile read. Therefore I rate the book four out of four stars because of its strengths in content, organization, and excellent editing. This book reminds me of the cliff notes because it helps me understand the Bible's content, organization, and divine messages from Jesus Christ, God's son.
