[Following is a volunteer review of "Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide" by William H. Coles.]
In this book, Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide, the author gives his opinion on how to create Literary stories (Some of what he teaches is also for other genres too). For example, the author discusses which point of view should be used at what time, the best ways to generate conversation in fiction, and how to make your writing credible.
The thing I liked most in this book was how organized it was. Apart from that, Creating Literary Stories: A Fiction Writer's Guide has many more good attributes. It is informative, clear, well-edited and very helpful. Unlike some books in this genre, this book doesn’t only tell you how to write fiction, it also gives examples of how to do it correctly, and how it really shouldn’t be done. The book is efficient and can give a lot of knowledge to the reader. In all, I find this book very useful for its purpose- helping fiction writers successfully write fiction.
I googled the author, William H. Coles, and looked into some of his books. From that research I concluded that he is in my opinion worthy of writing a book like this. he has written many (seemingly) successful fiction books. When reading, I noticed that he has a very good writing style. I personally found this book easy to read.
There was nothing I disliked in the book. This book, in my opinion, has no significant flaws from beginning to end and it completely fills its purpose. Of course, if you don’t want to write a book and aren’t interested you might not find this book interesting, but otherwise, there is no reason why it should not fulfil your expectations and be a wonderful read.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars since it is well-written and has no errors or mistakes and I personally enjoyed it very much and recommend it to any fiction writer out there who wants to strengthen his literary knowledge and ability to write fiction books. You don’t need any previous knowledge in order to read this book and understand (except for knowing how to read in English of course). Even if you can’t read a full book like this, you will have the ability to chose what chapters to read, since it is a very well organized book. I feel that this book has helped me learn how to write fiction, and I believe it can help whoever reads it.
