[Following is a volunteer review of "Ava Flips" by Ava Nebel.]
Ava Flips, written by Ava Nebel, is a story of a young girl who literally flips for acrobatics. It is her favorite thing to do. Ava enthusiastically flips through her daily life. She is energetic and athletic and can flip over just about anything; well, almost anything!
There is nothing I disliked about Ava Flips. The illustrations are upbeat and colorful. The storyline is great for young children. I like that this story portrays a very young girl with a passion for being active. Additionally, I enjoyed the use of rhymes to create a fun and playful flow to the book. I also liked the unexpected ending.
I rate Ava Flips 4 out of 4 stars. This is a perfect topic for today’s youth as it illustrates an active, athletic girl who is enjoying her passion while exercising. As a young girl, I spent many hours doing cartwheels in my house, yard, and anywhere else I could practice. Unfortunately, it is just not something prevalent in today’s world. I also liked that she has a tumble, but she will persevere and continue with her acrobatics.
I was amazed to find out that the author is a 7-year-old girl. I applaud Ava for her initiative and her energy. There are many lessons parents can pass on to their children through the storyline of this book. It is a perfect avenue for a variety of discussions about interests, exercising, and not giving up. I’m certain this will not be the last book published by this amazing young author.
This book is a wonderful read targeting a young audience. It is appropriate for all young children but will especially resonate with young girls. This book is a perfect opportunity to discuss the limitless opportunities available to young girls of all ages.
