A brilliant, computer-savvy, psychopathic killer with an appreciation for the classics is what we have here. He murders his victims by crushing the backs of their skulls. After that, he forcefully inserts a truncheon into a particular bodily orifice and leaves the body to be found that way. He keeps a blog on the dark web where he writes about each of his killings, describing them in vivid detail. He tries to rationalize his actions using philosophical arguments and his emotional detachment from the act of killing. Or is he? Inspector Sheehan and his team work to find out who the killer is. While following trails, they uncover a secret club that caters to the wealthy and influential with questionable sexual appetites. Meanwhile, the killer writes about his plans for his next victim. He reveals his next victim in an encoded clue for the police to decipher before time runs out.

The Dark Web Murders; The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Book 4 is the fourth book in the Sheehan series. It can be read as a standalone, however, as this story is independent. This book is the first I’ve read in the Sheehan series. I look forward to reading the others. The author brought the characters to life such that the reader forgets that this is fiction. The author wove such an intricate plot and gave easy-to-miss hints about the killer all along. Only a few would have been able to tell who the killer was before the end (allow me to boast here, that I was able to tell who the killer was early on).

This book has a slightly dark tone to it. The author Brian O’Hare, tempers the dark feel using comic relief and humorous dialogue among the characters. Also, Brian lets us inside the personal lives of Inspector Sheehan and Detective Stewart. These altogether serve to lighten the book while not taking away any of the intensity or the suspense. I loved this the most about the book. I also liked how there are strong female characters in the book, as many authors neglect to add strong female characters. There was nothing I disliked about the book.

I rate this book four stars out of four because I loved everything about it. The editor did a great job, as I found only a few typographical errors. The suspense was nerve-wracking. The reader is likely to have mixed feelings towards the killer as I did. Along the way, part of me wished the killer would stop killing, go and live on a beach somewhere, and not get caught.

I recommend this book to lovers of fiction, especially those who love mystery. If you are a lover of philosophy and, or the classics, you’ll enjoy this book too. As for readers who do not like fiction or murder mysteries, this book is unlikely to interest you. It is worthy of note that the murder scenes and the activities in the sex dungeon are in rather gruesome detail for those who would rather avoid that. I’ve read lots of mysteries, but few compare to this one. Brian certainly deserves a lot more recognition, and I’m sure he’s well on his way to getting it.

Dark web is a facinating thing for me. A fiction written based on that along with its killings should be an interesting read. Thanks for the detailed review

I also found this a great read and completely agree with your point of view. However, I did find the descriptions of the murders a bit too detailed, but that's probably because I usually do not read murder mysteries.

I appreciate that the author showed two sides to the murderer and created a complex character. However, the text sounds much too gruesome for my taste.

Thank you for a well-written review.
