[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies written by Matthew Tysz is a science fiction fantasy novel about a great kingdom called Voulhire. It’s a kingdom filled with magic, great business opportunities, minerals, science, industries, religion, trading among other amazing things. This book is set in the ages similar to the medieval times because there is evidence of chaos, migration, discovery, civilization and biased justice system.
This particular book is an introduction of the We Are Voulhire series. The novel begins with a young man called Galen from the Lands of the Princes who inherits his dead uncle’s assets, business and money. He had never met his uncle, and he embarks on a journey to Voulhire, Magnum Caelum where a finer life awaits him. Galen meets a new friend, Rowan a foul-mouthed financier who helps him settle and also in his future endeavors. Matthew Tysz also introduces us to Lord Eldus and his family who travels from Soulhire to Hillport to become the new Lord of the small coast town. The lawyer and his family work together to rebuild and revitalize the small town. Eldus is keeping a dark secret from his family and the people of Hillport. Will the secret come to light?
There are more characters and places that were partially introduced in the novel. Galen and Eldus characters developed more in the book. Since it is the first book in a series the plots are still developing, so the book leaves the reader with more question than answers. I love how the author structured the book with clear headings on each chapter, it makes it easy to follow since it has many characters. I love the language used in the novel very respectful, shows people had manners in that era. The map of Voulhire and reference guide makes it easy to comprehend and appreciate the novel more. I loved the prologue, it’s captivating and the imagery highlighted in this segment if magnificent. It’s magically action packed.
The novel is composed of 178 pages and the English is not so simple. Some words you have to look up in the dictionary or the reference guide. It is professionally edited, I didn’t come across any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. Punctuation was used correctly. It contains both borderline and non-borderline profanity, but it’s not much, just here and there. The author brings out themes which include friendship, religion, betrayal etc.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy books with a bit of magic. Someone who loves it when their imagination is taken to another level by the author. Anyone who is a fanatic of Game of Thrones series, would definitely enjoy reading this book. I rate this book a 4 out of 4 stars because it is well-edited, the storyline is absolutely amazing and the author’s imagination is out of this world. I can’t wait to read the second book from this series.
