Review by Gypsyrose20 -- The LadyKillers War

Post by Gypsyrose20 »

[Following is a volunteer review of "The LadyKillers War" by Peter Goldman, with Nicola Malatesta, PI.]

[rwc=id479432-125]4 out of 4 stars.[/rwc]Max Christian, P.I. aka ‘Dance, short for Sundance, a name given to him by his ex-partner, Tina, when he was in homicide, follows but one rule, rule number one is there are no rules. Max is a hard-living and hard-loving man. He's got a thing for his temps, he purposely doesn't recall their names, which makes it less of a betrayal to his wife in his mind, Meridew Hadley. He calls them all Kid. While Max and Meridew are out celebrating her election to Congress, Max is alerted by Tina, who is still working homicide, that Meridew is on the hit list of the LadyKillers Liberation Army. Their mission is to assassinate newly elected congresswomen at one per week. Meridew Hadley is a shining star among the newly elected congresswomen. She is expected to go far in the political world and is viewed as a threat to the LadyKillers. The LadyKillers are bound by rage against women for denying sexual pleasures. Max, Tina, and Nick are in a race against time to find out who is behind it all when discovering Meridew is the prime target. Nick's favorite Bible verse is “There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that shall not be known.” Nick puts this into his practice of bringing forth answers in an effective way.

I find it enjoyable reading stories that have current and up to date events happening, it lends a realistic touch. It's interesting reading how the author uses these events to weave into telling his story. Peter Goldman, with Nicola Malatesta, P.I. bring reality to the story with recent events and politics.

Although I disliked Max for his womanizing, I still enjoyed the book and the rich characters of Tina and Nick. It seemed like a double standard type situation, his wife is putting forth the face of powerful women and all the while he was bedding his temps if they were willing. Reminiscent of politics in history.

I give The LadyKillers War: From the Case Files of Max Christian, P.I. 4 out of 4 stars because it has a little twist not expected that adds to the appeal. In the political arena, we see women that will pull out all the stops to achieve goals. Very much in keeping with today's politics, what better way to deflect your intent to the other party.

I would recommend this book primarily for men that enjoy politics, a little blood, and guts, flawed characters, and some intrigue. I found profanity and reference to sexual activities throughout the book. It appears professionally edited since I only found one misspelled word.
