Mysteries Of the First Instant: Illuminating What Science Hasn’t Answered about the Inception of Our Universe is a book written by Daniel Friedmann and Dania Sheldon.

In this book Daniel points out the missing piece of the Big Bang puzzle by delving into Biblical history and also the Kabbalah. What was it like before the big bang? According to the author’s research, there are also a number of similarities between the chronology of the Big Bang Theory and the Biblical/Kabbalist sequence of events.

He gives the example of the relative understanding of time from a Divine perspective to justify the billions of years spent during creation compared to the relatively short time man has roamed the earth, justifying the existence of an intelligent mind behind the timing of our existence.

The book also studies our universe from the sub-atomic level to the multi-galactic level to drive scientific points home, featuring theories from the likes of Albert Einstein and Higgs.

What I liked most about the book is the author’s choice to dramatize the whole exploration of his studies with regard to the universe as it exists. This makes it easier for the average reader to follow his arguments as he makes conversation with his nephew, Seb, and other recreated conversations like one between Isaac Luria and his Wife and child in the 1500s (CE). There was little to dislike about the book, but I realized it required some prior knowledge on the scientific topics involved. One may have to do a bit of extra research here and there to be on the same page as the author in such situations.

The book also includes a wide glossary of terms at the end, which helps readers with definitions, explanations, and the like. Loads of diagrams help compress the author’s research to single glances which I’m sure will be of great help to researchers/students of cosmic science, quantum physics, religion, and enthusiasts of the creation process. I highly recommend the book to them. I can’t think of any group of people who shouldn’t interact with the book.

The text is thoroughly edited. I never spotted any typos or things out of the ordinary English language to point out. The content is also very relevant, and may even be controversial in some ways. A good example is the idea that the Hebrew language was specifically used during the creation process. Other sources may point out that a different language unknown to us is used in the spiritual dimension (there are a number of accounts of those who had near death experiences and went to ‘heaven’ and say that the language used there is foreign to us, yet none has claimed it’s Hebrew). All the same, the book is not written in a take it or leave it kind of way. I think it is worth 4 out of 4 stars.
