We Are Voulhire: The Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz is the second book in his We Are Voulhire series. It’s a fictional book full of magic and adventure. It centers in the town of Virko, a new city full of success and production discovered and built by Lord Hrelek Venden.

In this second book we are introduced to the history of Virko, a new town built a few decades ago by Lord Hrelek. It is an industrial town full of progress and production. Lord Hrelek is dying of sickness and the town of Virko will soon be ruled by his son Folcro. Despite his seemingly calm personality Folcro represents a threat to Virko, and his father is concerned. We also follow the story of the main character Galen Bray who arrives at Virko to get more iron for his business. It’s in this encounter that Lord Hrelek asks Galen for a favor in return for the iron. Is this favor as simple as it seems? What dark things are hiding in the town of Virko? Who is behind all of it?

What I liked about this book is the representation of this whole world. The book is so well written that it takes you to the exact place and situation told. It's easy to read and you can almost feel like you are in the city of Virko while reading it. Also, the character development is astonishing. The story of Folcro and Lord Hrelek are very well portrayed. The explanation of their lives helps us understand their personalities and the changes they went through in time. The book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time wondering what would happen next.

The only thing that was a little unsettling about this book was the violent scenes. We see violence and sexual assault that might upset some sensitive readers. The novel itself is quite dark, but these sensitive themes are not shown in detail which makes it easier to read.

I give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The book had almost no errors and it was professionally edited. It is an intriguing and exciting book that transports you to a world filled with magic and adventures.

I recommend this book to readers who enjoy books full of magic, fiction and intrigue. Due to the violent scenes and profanities, I believe this book is not suited for a younger audience. But to all fiction lovers, this book is full of exciting and adventurous stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
