[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
Galen Bray, a young man that had grown up in the Land of the Princes, all he knew was war, starvation, suffering and survival but his uncles dying wish will change all that. Galen Onita, his uncle paid Rowan an executor to look for his nephew and transfer everything to him including his forge as an inheritance, this was his way of getting redemption for not being there in his life. Galen was glad to leave and start a new life at Magnum Caelum a small town in Voulhire, a powerful and prosperous kingdom which was heading towards a golden age ruled by King Wilhelm and protected by the Mianoran Council headed by Midius Maido, Voulhire's first Knight.
Mean while Hillport, a small town in Voulhire receives a new Lord called Eldus Alderman who was dedicated to bring prosperity to the poorer southern coast and turn what once was a drawback to Voulhire's boastful economy into one of the very things driving it. But the possibilities of this happening are very slim since his predecessors had damaged the town. One was a pedophile and the other, Lord Meldorath a highly experienced mage that ruled through fear.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz introduces the reader to a fascinating new world where magic, religion, physics, the natural world and the supernatural world co-exists. The book has a multi faceted plot and has many characters coming to play, leaving the reader wondering who the actual protagonist is and what the antagonist is up to.
I loved the inclusion of a map to this realm, it helped with virtualization. The characters and story were brought to life too, with incredible traits, attention to detail and back stories. I also loved how the chapters had a tittle to each on whom the narration is focused on.
We are Voulhire went through top notch professional editing, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars thanks to the multi faceted plot that made the story enticing. I am looking forward to continuing the series.
I'd highly recommend this book to those who love and enjoy historic sci-fi/fantasy novels.
