[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a fiction novel written by Matthew Tysz. This is the first book in the series.
Galen Bray is a young refugee who came from the Land of the Princes into the land of Voulhire. He came in search of peace and happiness as the Land of the Princes was filled with war and uncertainty of survival. He was welcomed into the Land of Voulhire by his uncle’s executor, Rowan. On getting to Voulhire, he was tasked with the responsibility of taking over his uncle’s forge business. He is determined to make a difference while at it. So, he journeyed out searching for special metals to forge weapons. On his journey, he got to know that Voulhire is not as it seems. The Land of Voulhire is filled with many mysteries as the physical and the spiritual threatens it. The king of Voulhire, Wilhelm had to keep a secret from his people to keep them safe. The secret is now treating his kingdom. What will be the fate of his kingdom? What will be the outcome of Galen Bray’s journey?
The book has a lot of things to love in it. Matthew took his time to craft out these characters in this novel as each of them is interesting to read about. My favourite character is Bryan. He is a young man who is vocal and loved by all. The kingdom of Voulhire was also wonderfully described as you can feel the existence of this kingdom through the author’s description of the environment and the hierarchy of government included in the book. I also love the fact that the book was written from the third-person perspective, and the author keeps changing between different characters view to allow the readers to have access to the thoughts, emotions and imaginations of each character. All these made me love the book.
The only thing I dislike about this book is the way the starting of the story looks. It looks fast-paced and this is understandable since the book is the first in a series and the author is trying to lay the foundation for the other parts in the series.
The book was professionally edited and there was no error found. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I will be recommending this book to lovers of interesting fiction with a good storyline. I am longing to read the second book in the series.
