Imagine a story filled with suspense, fantasy and adventure rolled into one? This book is a journey you’ll never regret taking. If you are also a fan of history and classical music, this book is your oyster. It will leave you glued to its pages and wanting more till the very end!

Boone Daniels is a small-town Missouri musician with extreme panic attacks, a wendigo stalking him from age six and a clairvoyant ability he has no control over. Boone and his best friend Flynn Michaels duel against each other at the St. Louis Renaissance Festival and right at the beginning of the duel, a terrible mistake occurs which leaves Flynn gravely injured and Boone terribly guilty. Boone heavy with a heart, promises to fulfill Flynn’s dying wishes - to step in for Flynn for his band Village Idiots and to see a Professor Stone. The next day, Boone catches a bus to New York City and arrives at Professor Stone’s address in time to witness his cold-blooded murder. This launches Boone into a world of secret societies with its centuries old members, Paganini’s music, paranormal creatures, history and an unexpected crush!

The Devil Pulls the Strings by J. W. Zarek is a ten out of ten for me. It is a very captivating read from the beginning to the end. I never got bored halfway in the book or felt it was too slow at any point. The pacing was spot on. Since it was from a first-person narrative, I really understood and could connect with the protagonist, Boone Daniels. He is my favorite character. I like his sense of humor and the protectiveness he has over Sapphire, Professor Stone’s assistant. One of the things I also enjoyed was the infusion of European especially Russian folklore in the story. The writing was smooth and effortless. The author’s ability to use words to give vivid descriptions fed my imaginations. It felt like I was there while it all happened. The author’s writing style gave life to the characters which made it a very enjoyable read for me. I really liked this book.

The biggest takeaway from this book for me was to always be strong and persistent even in the worst times. Another important lesson I learnt is to go with the flow because life is one hell of a ride!

I found no errors in this book. I can say it was professionally edited.

This book is an all-rounder. I recommend it for fantasy and suspense lovers, people who like paranormal activities and lovers of history and classical music.

I rate this book four out of four stars.
