The New Eugenics by Conrad B. Quintyn was a very interesting book. I gave this book a 4 out of 4 rating.

This book is about new eugenics, which as the author tells us,involves the improvement of human health and ecology and safety by a variety of techniques. The author provides an in-depth look into the matter of new eugenics. Doctor Quintyn begins his analysis of new eugenics by giving the definitions for old eugenics and new eugenics. Next, the author gives us insight into this field by summarizing the research done by numerous scientist. The book details the uses of bioengineering techniques for example, cloning, which became a topical issue in the late 1990's. The author highlights the advantages and disadvantages of some of these bioengineering techniques.

This book is excellent because it provides the reader with up-to-date information about the impact of eugenics on everyday life, which is of concern to many worldwide. The terminologies used were explained so that the reader could understand clearly the subject being discussed, which was also aided by a glossary or terms. The field of eugenics has given rise to changes in everyday life:from the food we eat, in terms of GMO foods, to the ultrasound images of babies in the womb,as well as the continued studies by scientist into its therapeutic uses, for example,in cancer treatment. Doctor Quintyn was sure to provide us with the reasons for caution in terms of the use of these technologies which have become apart of new eugenics. The author cautions us,that as much as these techniques can be used to treat certain illnesses in the short term, which is good, there is also evidence of negative consequences both in the short term and the long term. The book tells us about the impact that new eugenics is having on politics, with regards to certain pieces of legislation, as well as its impact on research financing in terms of the money companies are willing to invest in this field. The New Eugenics is well researched, well written, and is a timely reminder of the promise, the cost and consequences of scientific advancement.

For me there were no negatives, I definitely recommend that people read this book, and take the time to consider their own views on the issues raised.

The rating of 4 out of 4 is the only suitable rating I could have given such a well written and well researched book. The details included were relevant and gave credence to the analysis and opinions which were expressed by the author.Doctor Quintyn validated the reasons why we should consider both the benefits and the risks involved in the use biotechnology techniques which could have permanent effects on human health, ecology and safety. This book gives us hope for a future free of sickness. It highlights the advancements and changes in perspective regarding eugenics which are refreshing and sobering.
