[Following is a volunteer review of "Tales of the 70's" by David Done.]
The book Tales of the 70's by David Done is composed of seven mini-stories and a novella. These are selected stories by the author from his collection between 1970 and 1975. Each story is unique and different. These stories were all written before the computer age, an era where there are no gadgets and technology to aid people's life. In this book, you will see the simplicity of life back then in California, where all the stories are set.
The seven mini-stories in this book described lifestyle, love, and survival. The novella is a story about the states of mind. This story in the novella was inspired by Mr. Done's friend's experiences.
The aspect that I liked most about this book was that it is entertaining in a way that will resonate in your mind. "The Cat Burglars" is a comic story about the two thieves and their adventure with an Ocelot. This is one of the mini-story which was hilarious, enjoyable, and strikingly beautiful.
The part of this book that I disliked most was the mini-story titled "Blind San Franciscans". It is about a man in his middle age who vision to tap into people's best instincts and use them to his advantage. There were scenes left unanswered. There were some instances in the story that a reader or audience want to learn more about what will happen next and why it happened.
I'll give this a rating of two out of four stars. Even though this contains interesting and entertaining stories, the countless errors made this book not winning for the readers. The most noticeable were the spacing and the uncapitalized first letter of a sentence. These faulty can be found in almost every paragraph. Word spacing is crucial and incredibly valuable in written form because it shows the sound of speech where the pauses or gaps will take place. It would also be difficult for people to read and comprehend a long continuous set of letters. The capitalization of a letter, particularly at the beginning of a sentence is equally valuable because it lets the reader know a sentence starts.
All of the stories in this book are inspirational and are lessons learned. But, since several scenes are sensual and there are also some socially unacceptable words. It made me decide to highly recommend this selected collection of stories to adults and audiences who want to read good, unique, and emotionally evocative stories.
