[Following is a volunteer review of "Smart Love" by Vincent Fudge II.]
Smart Love by Vincent Fudge II is a beautifully written semi-fictional story based on the true life experiences of the author; his wife; and their two children. Their story expresses what a relationship looks like in reality as well as the obstacles and difficulties they faced as opposed to the fairy tale movie version that so many unrealistically aspire to. What makes this story truly inspiring is the couple's devotion to their family and their determination to make their relationship work. Despite their trials and tribulations they refuse to give up and strive to fight for each other.
In this story the couple make use of a tool known as the Smart Love Project which consists of many exercises and techniques used to stimulate and encourage healthy and open attention and communication. It requires the visualization of goals and aspirations by each of them and then the meeting of the minds where each of them share their goals and aspirations with the other. If a mutual understanding and agreement is reached regarding these goals, they then set up objectives to help them work towards and ultimately achieving these goals and aspirations.
In short this tool helps couples tell each other what they need or what they want and helps them actively work together and support each other in achieving these goals.
The positives of this story are that it reminds us that no person and no relationship are perfect but that does not mean the person is not important or that the relationship is not worth saving. It shows and encourages self-reflection as opposed to focusing on the faults in others. It motivates growth and development as individuals and as couples. It seeks to result in improved; mature; respectful relationships.
This story is written from a humble and honest point of view which is easily relatable and applicable to anyone seeking insight on how to grow as a person or seeking to have a strong, healthy, meaningful relationship. Many can learn from this story and it is an interesting read. It consists of many thoughtful analogies; quotes of wisdom; and beautiful Bible verses.
Smart Love is a refreshing perspective of real life challenges and shows the grave consequences of negative actions. It puts into perspective who matter most to us and that it is up to us not to take them for granted. It emphasises that relationships and loved ones are precious and that they require love; maintenance; respect; trust; and communication.
The negatives of this book are the instances of profanity which make the book unsuitable for sensitive or younger readers. There are also instances of unnecessary repetition at the end summary.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was very well written. I found only one spelling error. It was overall an interesting and educational story that I think many will benefit from reading.
