Ghoulem Berrah's memoir- A Dream for Peace is an uplifting and thorough tale of striving toward peace by the freedom warrior and a diplomat. Berrah, an Algerian independence activist who studied medicine in France, was detained in Spain for his political participation and went on to study and lecture in China and America. He was captured and imprisoned in Pamplona, Spain, despite crawling for hours on his hands and knees. He represented the FLN (Algerian Liberation Front) in China while he was in his early twenties, and he met Chairman Mao Zedong. He then went to Indiana University as a Fulbright Scholar. His study paved the way for breakthroughs in the field of biology. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was elected a permanent member of the New York Academy of Science and was included among the American Men of Science. The Yale School of Medicine engaged him as a lecturer after that. He also coordinated DNA medical research, journeyed to holy sites from Mecca to the Vatican, and served as an envoy in Israel-Palestine peace talks. The book is encyclopedic with minutiae, capturing a sweep of twentieth-century history via Berrah's lens. It is written in the tone of an idealist focused with the big picture. It details how Algerians' past was obliterated by French conquerors, how Berrah became active in activism, and how he shifted from science to political consulting.

It kept me intrigued because inspirational quotations pepper the narrative, reinforcing crucial concepts, energizing subsequent chapters, and communicating a lofty, uplifting goal.

It does not have a negative aspect but it might cause a whirlpool of thoughts in the minds of politically sensitive people. At times, photos add to the tale, yet they are overused.

It is an interesting read and will surely keep the audience who love reading geopolitics intrigued and curious. People who love reading personal memoirs will also like it. Great to keep you hooked till the end.

I would give it 3 out of 4 stars because of the fact that I was hooked till the end and the story had innumerable twists and turns. It is well edited and had well expressed thoughts.
