When I first began reading Surviving the Business of Heathcare- Knowledge is power! by Barbara Galutia Regis, M.s., PA-C I was actually in the hospital recovering from surgery; which gave me a unique perspective as I read.

This book is a helpful guide that navigates the many aspects that make up our health care system. It begins with personal anecdotes from the author regarding her own life and experiences, and the life of her father a small private practice owner. Once she sets the stage and finishes explaining her qualifications to give advice the books delves deeper into the inner workings of the health care system. She summarizes the rolls of different kinds of medical professionals, offers helpful tips on affordable prescriptions and insurance options, and explains political motives behind the scenes.

This book is a great read for many different reasons and people. I personally enjoyed the way this book began with a personal insight into the authors own health adding more credibility to her ability to understand just about every aspect the health care world has to offer.

The writing style is friendly, inviting, and easy to understand. Personal anecdotes of her memories of her father’s practice in a small town sprinkled in with the heavier more clinical and political speak kept the pace of the book light and insightful.

The understanding this book brought me, regarding the role each person popping in to my hospital room played, made my hospital stay a little easier. Speaking as an individual who struggles with many chronic issues I would thoroughly recommend this book to absolutely everyone.

If you are looking to learn more about practicing medicine as a possible career path this book will give you a greater understanding of what field of practice you wish to pursue and what kind of person you should strive to be as you practice.

If you are looking to understand why your loved one is being bounced from doctor to doctor and test to test this book will help explain the process and political reasoning behind what is going on.

If you are struggling with health issues this book is also right for you. Even if you are just curious enough about what kind of insurance you or your family should have this book will explain everything you need to know and set you on your correct path.

Perhaps you are just concerned about politics and what ramifications health acts or mergers of large corporations will have on your future health; once again this is the book for you!
I give this book 4 out of 4 stars hands down. There was no profanity, sexual content, grammatical errors, or offensive shouting of opinions.

What a coincidence you got to read this book while in the hospital. I sincerely hope you feel better now.

Thanks for the review as well. It sure sounds like a good book for anyone who is generally curious about anything going on in the world.
