Virko – The Industrial Hub of the country of Voulhire is set for a huge political shift on account of the degrading health of Lord Venden Hrelek. On the other hand, in the town of Magnum Caelum, our protagonist – Galen Bray begins his career as a blacksmith; but to his bad luck soon learns about the tragedy befallen on Lord Eldus, who promised a supply of iron to support Galen’s new occupation. As a solution, Galen and his friends Rowan and Demetrius decide to set off for the city of Virko expecting help and assistance. However, Virko-the city that once was a turning point in re-establishing the economy of Voulhire and which paved singularly the most significant role in leading Voulhire to its, ‘Golden Age’ is home to a dark, sinister secret, unbeknownst to anyone but a few, lying deep in the dungeons, controlled for years by a force that is soon going to lose its command. Unfortunately, destruction is not limited to Virko this time.

Along with science and magic, the second instalment of the We Are Voulhire series – We Are Voulhire: Fires of Virko by Matthew Tysz introduces its readers to a new realm called, 'spirituality’. This book does not mean to ‘teach’ you spirituality, but if you fantasize enough about the idea of it, you’ll find it to be an intriguing element in the story. Readers get a chance to better understand the characters and their thought processes as the narration is in the form of monologues and experiences of the characters. Although it’s a sequel, a lot of new characters with their subplots and stories have been introduced along with the same poignant theme, darker setting compared to the previous book and medieval touch.

What I loved the most about this book is the detailing and the description of the events. The author makes sure to keep you entertained by maintaining a good balance of humour and suspense throughout the book. The story, plot, characters, descriptions and dialogues were up to my expectations. There was nothing at all that I would call a setback or that I didn’t like.

I would recommend this book to the fans of mystery, adventure and fantasy genre. There’s considerable use of profanity which sensitive readers might not like. I found almost no grammatical errors and the book seems to be professionally edited. Considering all the aforementioned points, I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and am expecting to read the sequels too!

It's my first time to read about the connection between Eldus and Galen.
I cannot read the sequel to the first book right now, so I'll just check everyone's review.
Thank you for providing a different angle in the summary.

I love books that give detailed descriptions of the events. I read the first book of the series and I'm not surprised that the author continues to make sure to keep the reader entertained by maintaining a good balance of humor and suspense throughout the book. I look forward to reading the remaining books of the series. Nice review.

This one seems a bit too explicit. It was difficult for me to get into his writing style when I read another book by him as well. I think I'll pass. Thanks!

Definitely! An authors writing style makes a whole lot of difference to the reader's experience. I understand if it doesn't suit your taste. Thank you for sharing your opinion! :D

I read the first book and am curious to know what happens next in Voulhire. But Tysz writes them faster than I can read them. I believe he is writing Book 9 now. Or would "has written" be more accurate?
