Review of Awakening
Awakening by Tanya Tameem features two princesses, Amara and Katja. In the story Amara is blessed with the spirit of winter which enables her to conjure and manipulate ice. The gift feels like a burden to her as it is directly connected with her emotions and she is not in control of her emotions. Many times in the course of book Amara loses control and uses her power to harm those who have angered her. The only person who is able to calm Amara is Katja, her older sister. She is the only one who believes in her and doesn't fear her. The story starts with Katja waking up in a forest with no memories of her life except for her name. The story switches between past and present in each consecutive chapter with Katja trying to remember her memory, in present and what all happened in her life from the beginning to the moment she loses her memories, in the past. The story continues as she tries to recall her life, meet new people whom she grows to love, figuring out that she is the sister of the infamous Lady Snow and then trying to decide how to stop her.
I really enjoyed the story. It was well written and the author had a strong grasp of what her characters were feeling. The story keeps you hooked and you want to know what happens next after each chapter. The story was very well written and it didn't have any grammatical or spelling errors.
The negatives part was that the story was dragging a bit in the beginning but it gains momentum in the middle. The plot twist at the end was a bit rushed. But overall it was a good read and I would want to read the sequel to know what happens next.
I would rate this story three out of four stars because of the points mentioned in the previous paragraph. But I really enjoyed this story and recommend it to anyone who likes a good fantasy read. People of all age can read this book as it doesn't contain any mature content but there are a few chapters with violence in them, so keep that in mind.
