Everyone has experienced grief and loss. Loss for some is worse than it is for others and some find it easy to get over their pain than others. Kathleen Ho survived a brain tumour and lost her husband of ten years to a stroke. After this, she went through a period of depression and nearly committed suicide multiple times. Over time, however, with the help of family and friends, she was able to get over the pain and find a renewed taste for life.

In Living Forward After Loss, Kathleen Ho narrates her personal experience with grief and tells us the process she goes through to heal. She explains that her intention in writing this book is to help other people who may be going through a similar experience. To teach them how to heal based on her personal experience. Besides grief counselling, she tells us how to work through grief in different situations, especially during the holidays. She also motivates us and gives us simple, practical tips on how to move forward afterwards.

There were many things I enjoyed about this book. The first thing was its simplicity in language and explanations. It is written in a language that is easy to read and understand. The tips are practicable and quite insightful. Another thing I loved was the summary included after each chapter. They highlighted the important points in the chapter, which make them stick better to the memory. Also, Kathleen gave us personal anecdotes multiple times which removed any chance of boredom. I loved how Kathleen’s story was relatable. Rather than being dark or morbid, the book was quite soothing and light. This was great.

I disliked nothing about the book. It was an enjoyable read. I noticed some repetitions, but this did not bother me at all. Sadly, however, I found more than a few typographical errors. They did not affect my reading of the book but I have to take out a star from the rating. Therefore, I have to rate it three out of four stars for this reason.

I recommend this book to lovers of nonfiction. Those who are going through a bleak period in life because of grief and loss, and want to know how to get past it will find it beneficial. Those who dislike nonfiction may not enjoy it. It is quite interesting that after reading the book; I find myself rooting for Kathleen. I hope she finds happiness and meets someone she can be happy with.

This book is obviously a great read for those who recently suffered a big loss. I suppose it could also help the rest of us to understand the process of grieving and healing. Thanks for your lovely review!

It sounds like this would be a good tool for those who know people dealing with loss, too. Is it written in a way that it would be applicable to different kinds of loss? I.e., estranged family?

This sounds like a must-read for people who have lost somebody. I don't like non-fiction honestly, but I think I might have to check this book out. Thank you for the review!

Moving on after losing a loved one is not easy. Yes we process grief differently but it hurts either way. This book promises to be an insightful read. Thanks for a beautiful review!

Oh, it focuses mostly on loss through death where it specified. But mostly it talks about loss in general.
I believe it should help anyone get past any type of loss.
Thanks for your brilliant query. And for reading and commenting.

Not it isn't easy. It never is.
And something inside goes missing after a loss.
Which is why it is great that this book exists.

Congratulations to the author for her courage. It took courage to peek into one's soul and write such an intimate confession. I respect that very much.
