Review of The Legacy of Job's Wife

[Following is a volunteer review of "The Legacy of Job's Wife" by Cynthia Koelker.]

Tales of suffering are best told by those who have suffered themselves. Cynthia Koelker tells a story of love and forgiveness based on events in the book of Job. Most people have heard of the phrase, "curse God and die," in the Bible. These are the words Job's wife told him when God had forsaken him.

The Legacy of Job's Wife by Cynthia Koelker is a fictional tale that narrates the circumstances that led to Job's wife uttering those hurtful words to her husband. It begins when Job is five years old and witnesses the birth of Ix'ises. She is a beautiful baby girl with eyes the color of midnight. Job cannot help but always take care of her. Both their mothers are the best of friends, and Job is always delighted to visit Ix'ises and her family. They grow up to cherish each other and be good friends. However, Job comes of age and starts going on caravans with his father. Ix'ises also reaches womanhood and has chores, so they barely see each other. Ix'ises always expected that Job would marry her, but Job delays and someone else asks for her hand. What happened after is an emotional rollercoaster filled with twists and turns that will keep you in awe.

Cynthia Koelker is so far the best author I have encountered. She captures the emotions of the reader like nothing I have read before. I loved that there was no part of the book where I felt was anticlimactic. The plot was always building until the end. She also made a point not to stray too far from the events in the Bible. I liked the poems at the beginning of every chapter, narrating the feelings of Ix'ises. I also loved the protagonist, Job's wife, because I could relate to her emotionally. I could feel the love, heartbreak, joy, and pain. There is also light humor in the characters' dialogue which I appreciated.

It is for the above reasons I give this book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. The reason being, throughout my reading, I cried, laughed, smiled, and there was nothing I disliked about it. Moreover, the book was remarkably edited, I found no errors.

I would recommend this book to almost any audience, especially to readers who enjoy romance stories with a bit of a twist. I would also recommend it to those who love books that spark their emotions. The Legacy of Job's Wife is doubtless their kind of book. It has an aspect of religion based on events in the Bible. Therefore, I would caution those who don't like such genres. However, I would not discourage other religious groups because this is not the kind of read they are expecting. It is better.

This sounds beautiful. I will be honest and say that I don't really read much about religion and all; however, I did find your review beautiful. Thank you.

I like that the author added a twist to Job's story, starting with his childhood and narrating the events of his youth. I agree with you that believers and nonbelievers alike will relish this tale.
