Are you ready to enter a world of kings, mages, lords, rebels and ordinary people ? We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is about a kingdom unlike others, where good and evil exist together. Voulhire consists of numerous beautiful cities such as Virko, Hillport, Yamon Soul and Soulhire, which all have a story to tell. Life in these cities are presented to us through the eyes of different people, varying from kings to poor workers.

Galen, fled from the Lands of the Princes in order to take over his uncle’s business, who recently passed away. After leaving the war behind him, he found himself in a quiet and peaceful town, at least that’s what he thought. With a little help, he will discover the beautiful small town called Magnum Caelum and everything that consists of it.

Dalehei Meldorath is the ex- lord of Hillport, and a malicious mage who is famous for spreading terror and death to anyone that opposes him. Despite his supposed death after the accusations of experimenting on humans, rumors have it that he is still alive. Is he truly alive? If he is, what’s going to happen to the new lord, Eldus? Will the long-feared Meldorath strike again? The thrilling novel will answer all your questions.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book of Matthew Tysz’s We are Voulhire series. The book is well organized while providing a map of Voulhire in the beginning and a Reference section in the end for any unknown words. Both were really helpful and I have to admit that without them I would have been lost.

What I admire the most about this book are the details and descriptions of characters and their surroundings which make the reader feel as if they’re literally living in that moment. I have to congratulate the author for giving life to the story. The author uses a third person omniscient for all the characters except for Galen for whom he uses a first person point of view.

The plot had me a bit confused and I’m not sure about the ending of the book. It left a lot of question marks but I will be able to judge when I read the rest of the series.

There is some profanity, therefore I’d recommend this book to any adventure and fantasy lovers over 14. There are no grammatical errors which led me to the decision to rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
