The book is based on idioms used in everyday conversations. The authors Peter, Mat and Jay, divide the book into 25 chapters, with each chapter representing a specific topic. The topics include relationships, family matters and business to mention a few. This book consists of idioms and their meanings alongside.

Practical short stories have been included at the end of each chapter. These stories demonstrate how the idioms of that particular chapter can applied in a typical conversation. The questions asked after each short story, make it a practical and useful book for learning. It is well organized and user friendly, since answers are provided for all the questions.

The idioms selected in this book are not complicated. They are relevant to everyday conversations at home, school or in the work place. Some of the idioms included are “ start the ball rolling” and “ in no time.” These are quite simple and commonly used idioms on a daily basis. The index contains all the three hundred idioms and the pages where they are found.

The chapter Visiting friends has some common idioms, which anyone learning conversational English, whether young or old would find interesting. These idioms can be applicable when arranging to visit a friend. The chapter on Education can easily enhance the vocabulary of students. Readers may also benefit from the chapter of Facts and opinions, which may help them distinguish between facts and opinions during a discussion.

There are topics that contain idioms which can make a dialogue between a native speaker and an English beginner fascinating. It can certainly turn monotonous talks into interesting conversations. Moreover, this book can boost the confidence of the one learning the English language. They may also learn how to express themselves with ease.

The authors added idioms related to dining. These idioms can be used when eating any meal at home, at a restaurant or on the go. Telephone conversation idioms have been integrated into the book. House work idioms are included. They can be handy for those who converse about their chores. The book has a section for filling in the blank spaces, which makes it more interactive. It is a short and precise book. Furthermore, it contains crossword puzzles the end of of a few chapters. This makes learning English fun for the reader.

I would recommend this book for a Chinese audience, since it is translated into Chinese. I would also generally recommend it for anyone interested in teaching or learning English as a second language. It could be a useful tool for English instructors, because it can be used as a classroom textbook. I would give this book 4 out 4 stars. It was edited exceptionally-well.

This sounds really interesting! Does it include the history behind the idioms or just an explanation of what they mean and how to use them?
