We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a world imbued with magic and adventures. The first of the ongoing nine-book series, We are Voulhire, this is a tale of kingdoms, history, war, and politics. The book revolves around Galen, a boy who escapes from the lands of civil war and feuds to the dreamland of Voulhire.

The story begins with a gripping and tense prologue of rebellion by a sorcerer, Lord Meldorath to overthrow the lord of Hillport. The author then introduces us to his world of Voulhire through the life and thoughts of different people from different statuses and background. From the eyes of the just and able King Wilhelm to the humble Lord Eldus, the new Hillport lord who has been appointed to erase the influence of the believed to be dead evil sorcerer, Meldorath, we see a whole new world unknown to us unfold slowly and beautifully.

Apart from the simple yet strong vocabulary and the brilliant narrative tool used by the author, I could witness the author's love for watching people and their behavior throughout the book in his manner of descriptions and detailing. There were many instances such as the ones where we are introduced to the Capital of Voulhire, Soulhire and Galen's new home, the city of Magnum Caelum in such a beautiful and detailed manner that it seems hard to believe that this is a fictional world that the author created from nothing. The effort, patience, and dedication put forth are well reflected in his unique writing style and story development.

There is absolutely nothing that made me dislike the book as a whole. The book flows in the right pace and mood making it an almost perfect beginning for the series. There are some instances of violence and profane elements which might be unsettling for younger readers.

If you are a teenager or adult who loves dark fantasy and is a fan of classics like Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones, you will surely enjoy the We are Voulhire series. There are maps and glossary provided for the curious minds of readers to explore. This enriches the experience of readers and makes us feel as if we are in the magical world that the author portrayed in this masterpiece.

The book is professionally edited, well structured and an easy read for any book lover. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars for the gem it is.
