The magnificent kingdom of Voulhire embraces cities filled with wealth, power and knowledge where magic and the struggle for power is not unknown. The people of Voulhire live under the rule of King Wilhelm, who wants to keep them safe and secure. But the magical power of the general Meldorath keeps growing, and he kills the lord of one of the cities to declare himself as the lord of the city.

A migrant comes to the kingdom of Voulhire from the Lands of the Princes as it was willed by his uncle before dying. The new life awaiting in Magnum Caelum welcomes him with open arms. The stories of the greatness of the cities of Voulhire seem to be true, and he is immensely fascinated by them. However, there are terrifying things in the kingdom of Voulhire that creep in the dark and are rising to power slowly.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is the first book in the Voulhire series. The book is filled with great descriptions of the cities of the kingdom of Voulhire which help the reader to visualize the places where the events of the story unfold. The writer has taken time to introduce every important character that takes the plot forward. The storyline moves at a slow pace with new additions to the characters and sudden twists that make the book very compelling. The book ends on a cliff hanger to keep the readers interested in the next book of the series, which I think is very important for a series of books to be attractive to the readers. The plot of the story is multifaceted and very interesting, so I cannot wait to read the rest of the books of this series.

Some parts of the book were very slowly moving forward or not moving forward at all that made the book slightly in need of better pace. The book is set in a historic time, but some words in the book seem very modern and not suitable to the narrative.

I rate We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies 4 out of 4 stars for its compelling plot and its ability to keep the reader wanting more. Even though in some parts of the chapters the pace of the book appears to be slow, it does not hinder the reading experience at all.

The book has illustrations of profanity, acts of violence, religious content and slight sexual references. Therefore, this novel is not suitable for young readers and for religious readers who might be sensitive about the references in this book. However, I recommend it to mature readers who enjoy fiction novel series. The book is remarkably well edited, and I did not stumble across any grammatical or spelling errors.

The story was beautifully written, although I felt the author could have done better as the multiple characters and their stories felt disconnected at first. But thanks for a good review!

I agree with you, a lot of characters were introduced in the early parts of the novel. But they made an impact by taking the storyline forward.

The plot is great, but the execution could be better. It does feel like reading a book set in a bygone era with modern language. I hope you continue the series. Thanks for the great review.
