[Following is a volunteer review of "The New Eugenics" by Conrad B. Quintyn.]
The new eugenics means the new techniques of biotechnology and genetic engineering which have the power of modification in biological life. With help of advanced computer technology and the new techniques like CRISPR/cas9 and others, scientists can change the genome map of all living world or we can say biological world (including viruses). On a gross view it sums up genome editing, In vitro fertilisation, nano-medicine, cloning, gene therapy etc.
In the book The New Eugenics : Modifying Biological life in The Twenty First Century author Conrad B. Quintyn went thoroughly through all new techniques which came in sight in last 20 years of 21st century and have ability of Gene editing, designing, duplicating and implanting. Along with that he tried to imply every possible positive or negative long term effect of these techniques. For example genome therapy for chromosome anomaly v/s designer or selected babies or therapy v/s elective enhancement. Some scientific researchers having nightmares of miss-use of techniques and others having dreams of playing god by use of synthetic biology.
In this book the author profoundly explained by how using biotechnology and genetics in welfare of human race while keeping in mind all the profits and risk factors by quoting science fiction movies and stories. This book gives an unbiased but detailed description of eugenics in welfare of human race. It gives a thought process to avoid unintended consequences of researches that can make harm or to if it happens, how to think straight to get rid of them that it can not harm to life itself.
If anyone is interested in scientific researches and their progression this book is most recommended one. Instead of a non-fiction genre of this book science fiction lovers would also like it. The author wrote this book with numerous examples and direct quotes from various scientists that it is so difficult to detach yourself from it before completing. He did a good work on a topic like this to make it so delightful.
I found this book well edited with zero to rare mistakes. I am rating this one with 4 out of 4 stars because it fulfils every curiosity of the reader with which he/she should have picked it up. It is well wrote and well edited and the author is completely successful in keeping up the amusement even in any mind-numbing topic which come along.
