[Following is a volunteer review of "Don't Mind Me, I'm Just Having a Bad Life" by Lewis Kempfer.]

The book, Don’t Mind Me, I’m Just Having a Bad Life, is a memoir written by Lewis Kempfer. In this book, the author narrates his life story and all the hardships that he had to undergo.

The author begins his narration from the time when he was just four years old. He was brought up in a dysfunctional family. His dad was extremely strict and used to abuse him. Then one day, his dad left him and his mother and got married to another woman. His mother had to go through a lot of pain which the author blamed himself for. Later, his mother remarried. The stepdad that he got was worse than his father. At this point, the author was completely lonely and depressed. Because of this, his mother took him to a therapist, Dr. Fruitcake, who was a disaster in the name of a therapist. Instead of healing his wounds, he aggravated it by mistreating and manhandling him. This is not the end. The author had difficult times in school, got bullied by his friends, indulged in unethical activities, etc. To know the further details, you have got to read this book.

This book has three parts divided into 52 chapters. Here, the author has touched on a wide range of topics like dysfunctional families, complicated relationships, abuse, drug addiction, toxic friendship, homosexuality, sex, etc., and all of this related to his own life.

I highly appreciate the author’s memory as he could recollect instances from his childhood very clearly and put them into this book. The best part of this is that the author has given all the details raw and honest. Every line of this book just tells you one thing, that is, the author is bold and brave. I do not think it would be easy for any other person to experience all those inhumane things and also write a memoir about it. This requires a very strong heart. Most people take their families for granted. But through this book, the author has shown how vital a family is in a person’s life and how few people are not blessed with a normal one. The biggest appeal for me was the usage of humor in this book. With all the problems and drama, the author made sure to incorporate humor in this book. For example, in the 10th chapter, the author imagines a scene wherein the boys don’t use the left hand to catch the ball, as using the left hand is a sign of evil. The way he narrates this is funny. With all this, The author did not give up and that is praise-worthy. His faith in the Lord helped him survive.

Overall, this is a really intense and honest book. There is nothing much that I disliked about this book. However, the narration seems slow and boring in some places. Though it is reality, a few scenes here are gross and disturbing. For example, the scene where Dr. Fruitcake abuses the author the toilet. I did not find any errors while reading. With that being said, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

This book contains profanity, obscenity, and a lot of sensitive and harsh stuff. So, I urge sensitive people to stay away from this. This book is suitable for the people who are willing to know the unpleasant things occurring in a few people’s lives and who are strong enough to handle harsh scenes.

It's very easy to take the title lightly, like someone jokingly saying, "Don't mind me, I'm just having a bad life." I don't know that I can handle reading this book, but I hope the writer at least found happiness now. Thank you for your detailed review!

This is an interesting memoir that tells the author's difficult childhood and how he overcame such difficulties. It's the kind of book that can be inspiring for other people who grew up in abusive families. Thank you for your great review!
